Alcohol

Amber, on February 11, 2020 at 10:15 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
Hi there,

My wedding is in August and im in need of ways to cut cost for the bartending/alcohol service. The venue we have has a liquor/beer license but does not include the bartender or alcohol. We have to find a bartender that is licensed and insured to serve alcohol under their roof. What are the best ways to cut cost when it comes to alcohol? We are torn betwen just doing beer & wine, or adding at least whiskey and vodka for a couple mixed drinks, as majority drink liquor in our families.

Thank you!

You can try thumbtack app for a cheap bartender. And I’d get a lot of beer and bottom shelf liquor. It won’t matter when it’s mixed and most bars do this anyway.

We’ve decided to do 2 beers, 1 craft & 1 domestic light beer, red wine, white wine, whiskey & vodka. We figured that’d be plenty of options for our guests.

If you want to save money I would stick to beer and wine only.

For saving money you can have pre made cocktails and beer and wine only. As spirits add up.

I would check with your caterer about a bartender. We’re providing our own alcohol but using their bartender so that we didn’t have to get one of our own. Makes it a lot easier in terms of communication

Sticking to just beer & wine is fine! One type red, one white, maybe 2-3 types of beer depending on your crowd.

I believe if you get liquor from Costco or sams you can return unused. My friend who is a weeding coordinator told me of a local store who would do that. I’d limit it to 2-3 hard liquor plus beer and wine. The hard liquor the more mixers. Don’t forget to give non drinkers something. I went to a wedding once that had beer and wine. No water even. For summer you might do a lemonad or even some sort of punch.

We're doing wine (both regular and sparkling), 2 kinds of beer and a signature drink with rum! Saves tons of money this way

We had to hire bartenders and actually found ours on WeddingWire. They were OK, just be sure you are clear with them on your crowd and what you expect from them. For example: they provided the alcohol and mixers - we brought extra beer & vodka because we knew our crowd a lot of big drinkers. They ran out of CLUB SODA & SELTZER & LIMES within the first hour of our wedding. Thankfully one of my BM's told them to get their butts to a store and get more....or my guests would have been drinking straight vodka and tequila.... not a good idea.

It is more than fine to stick with just beer and wine to cut down on the cost. I am a vodka drinker but would not be disappointed if I couldn't get that but wine was offered.

The best way to save money on alcohol is to only offer beer and wine. Even though you have a lot of liquor drinkers, people will drink whatever is available and be happy with it. If you would like to offer some sort of liquor, a good way to save money is only offer 1 or 2 signature cocktails. This cuts down on having to buy too many types of liquors or mixers.

We are having a smaller event and decided to do signature drinks. Then we decided to just do gummy Jell-O shots. So much easier and lots of fun. It’s not a big fancy event, so it fits right in.

If a majority of your guests drink only liquor then skip the beer/wine that won't be consumed.
