You'll have to get price quotes from local liquor stores/warehouse shops. Seems like a keg would be more economical.

Our venue recommends cases over kegs. In their experiences, kegs end up having leftover beer that usually just gets wasted. Kegs also take longer to pour and serve, equaling longer lines and less enjoying the actual reception. This is why we’ve chosen to go with cases. (And we get to take home whatever is left over and have it for ourselves) However, you can’t beat the taste of drafted beer! There are some great deals out there too. Do whatever you enjoy most and you think will be most economical.

Cases/bottles can, In some states, be returned. A keg you are pushing beer on people to not waste any, plus the left filled cups, the fact you need at least 30 people to agree on a beer or again you wasted money, buy the equipment, make sure it is delivered on time since theres no stock piling it somewhere, then you need enough cups, the time it takes to poor one correctly four bottles can be grabbed and opened, then theres after, when you need to dump leftovers, somehow return the keg undamaged, ect. You can also have a friend recycle the bottles or cans, and any extra just save for next gathering, return if available, or give away at the end, plus you can do multiple types.

My family loves beer but there is no way they would be able to agree on one or two different types for kegs for a wedding. I would do cans or bottled cases and get a verity of different beers so everyone will have a choice.

We chose cases because we wanted a few types of beer, it was faster to serve and we didn't want to worry about having enough cups (just one less thing to deal with!).

When budgeting, you need to take into account 1) the length of your reception and 2) how much does your guest list drink (light drinkers, heavy drinkers, etc).

I used this drink calculator to figure out how much we needed: https://www.bevmo.com/drink-calculator/ I think it ended up being a little cheaper for 1 5.5gal keg of beer vs. the cases, but we decided to go with the cases so we could have a variety of beer and not have to worry about buying cups. (Our 55 guests were light-moderate drinkers so it didn't make sense for us to buy multiple kegs.)
