Alcohol cost

COLO92218, on May 11, 2018 at 3:52 PM Posted in Colorado Planning 1 10

Hi Colorado Friends! Smiley love

We are looking at some options for alcohol at our wedding in September. Our venue doesn't require us to use a specific liquor vendor so we have the option to purchase our own and bring it in to be served.

Has anyone done this?
Is it more cost effective than hiring a liquor service?
How much did you order per person?
How much of a pain was it to get the alcohol TO the venue on the day of? We can't store items there before or after the wedding.
If you did this in Denver, what liquor store or vendor did you use?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey there! Since you are considering to bring your own alcohol, you should reference our 7 Beer Wedding Ideas to lend inspiration towards some of the innovative ways to incorporate beverages!

You can also try browsing through the various bartending services in Colorado to receive an idea of pricing!

    We supplied our own.

~70 guests and about 60 drinkers
2- 1.75L 1800 tequila (margaritas were our signature drink)
    2- 1.75L vodka
    2- 1.75L Bacardi
    1- 1.75 L jack Daniels and1 captain Morgan.

    1 750ml fire ball & 1 750ml Rumchata (signature drink)

We had 1 bottle of tequila, vodka and Bacardi left unopened, we returned the vodka and Bacardi to Total Wine because they allow returns on unopened bottles.

we had a selection of red and white wines, I bought some, my mom and my MIL bought some and we have a tonnnnn of wine left over

    for beer we did
    2 cases of bud light
    3 cases of miller light
    3 cases of Stella

We were able to drop it off at the caterer the day before the wedding and they boxed/packaged everything up at the end of the night and put it in MIL's car. Without counting the things we returned we spent about $6PP and $150 for the bartender and $100 for the mixers the caterer provided.

We are bringing in our own alcohol. Our venue charges us $900 which covers three bartenders and a corkage fee. We are bringing in beer, wine and champagne. I used a calculator I found online to determine what we need. I just google wedding alcohol calculator. Bringing in your own seems to be WAY cheaper than having an open bar through most venues.

I'm in Denver, and would recommend Argonaut, or our favorite wine store- Uptown Wine and Spirits. Argonaut is a bigger business, but Uptown will provide MUCH better customer service. Tell them Mallory sent you!

    Where is your wedding?

We're using Peak Beverage for our alcohol! It comes out to $16pp for a full open bar for five hours and includes the bartenders, glassware—everything!

Costco! You can return any unopened cases you don’t use! If you get 8 and you can put what’s left into 2 boxes you can return those two.

So we are doing an outdoor wedding so I know it's a little different, however we are doing our own alcohol, so the rule of thumb I've seen is.. have enough for each person who will be drink to have 2 drinks per hour that they will be drinking.. so we are doing beer and wine, so we are accounting for the adults who would be drinking with that equation.. hope this helps! Smiley smile As far as cost, I am having a smaller wedding so i have been buying a case of beer every paycheck up until the wedding, so that its not as big of an expense, but i wouldnt know for liquor or anything like that!

Can your caterer supply alcohol? I'm doing a bloody mary and mimosa bar for $7pp with mixers through my caterer. Beer/Win option was about the same. Don't forget to factor in insurance so you don't get sued if someone over indulges and kills someone on the way home.

Another consideration is how much DIY are you already doing? I was planning to do cake tiers on cake stands and although it would save me about $250, I decided that the fact I didn't have to worry about it was well worth the extra expense. I am already DIYing my flowers though.

We are bringing our own. In DC there is a company that will deliver it and then pick it up at the end of the night. Maybe you can find something like that?
