Alcohol Calculator?

Future Mrs. Voso, on April 27, 2016 at 8:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

Has anyone found a good calculator online or does anyone have knowledge about how much alcohol to buy for a wedding? I've tried out a few that I've found through Google but so far I haven't had much luck getting a clear answer. We're doing beer, wine, and two signature drinks. Pretty much everyone in our crowd is a drinker with over 100 of them being our college friends so I'm just having a hard time...especially with the liquor estimation.

Does anyone have any advice?

So, I didn't use a calculator per say, but our bar is consumption based, so we had to figure out an average number of drinks per person. I've found pretty consistently that rule of thumb is 2 drinks the first hour and 1 drink every hour after that. Our bar will be open 5 hours, and we've budgeted (based on our average drink price) for everyone to have 6 drinks. Some will drink 1 and some will drink 10, so I'm hoping it all evens out!

FutureMrsKristenS: How many types of drinks are you having? Did you split up what you bought based on that? I figure I'll have more beer than wine drinkers, but more wine than liquor drinkers but I'm just not sure!

Assume 1.5 drinks per hour per person to be on the safe side. 40% will drink wine, 30% will drink beer, 30% will drink liquor. So a 4 hour reception for 100 people, will be 600 drinks. Thats 240 glasses of wine, 180 bottle of beer, and 180 signature drinks. You can figure out bottles and kegs from there. ETA: you can adjust the proportion of wine, beer, and liquor based on your family and friends.

So, we are having a domestic beer, a craft beer, red and white wine, and vodka, rum, gin, and whiskey. We are not providing the alcohol though, the venue is. They function like a restaurant- we pay per drink. So, I can't help with how much of what. We do have a general idea though. We think beer and liquor will be our heavy hitters (beer for family/liquor (vodka and whiskey) for friends). Sorry!

Lindsey: that's very helpful! I should have clarified that I was looking for advice like that...I'm just not sure how to break down who will drink what. Our cocktail hour starts at 4pm and "last call" will be at 11pm for about 200 drinking people so I'll just double your advice; thank you!

FutureMrsKristenS: I now wishing our venue was more like that! I think if we did a full bar we would have more liquor drinkers but the bar doesn't have a soda line hook-up so mixers would have been a mess and we opted for the signature drinks.

@FutureMrsVoso, this is my favorite online calculator. Click the "calculator worksheet" button and work through that. http://www.totalwine.com/party-planning?uiel=desktop
