Alcohol at the after party

VWCat, on April 3, 2015 at 3:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

My question is how much alcohol should I buy for our after party? We're camping at the venue after the reception, and I expect around 20 guests will stay to camp with us. I want to make sure I have enough beer and wine to last for the whole reception and the camping after party.

I've been running the #s for alcohol at my wedding based on my full guest invite list so that I can get an idea of what the cost could be.

Using the apracticalwedding guide but adjusting to what my guests drink. Here's what I'm thinking about purchasing for the reception:

6- 30 packs

16 boxes of red

10 boxes of white

Would you just add a couple extra 30 packs beer and another few boxes of wine for the after party and assume I'll have left overs? I'll post the #s for how I found what to buy.

    Here's the #s that I'm using:

    109 guests x 5 hours = approx. 545 drinks

    545 x 0.3 = 163.5 beers or approx. 6- 30 packs

    545 x 0.7 = 381.5 glasses of wine / 5 bottles = approx. 77 / 3 bottles per Black or Bota box = approx 26 boxes of wine. I'll probably buy 60% red (16) and 40% white (10)

Again, this is early in the game, but I want to price it out, so that I have enough money budgeted. I currently have $500 budgeted for wine, beer, soda, and water, but I think I'll need to add a little more to that budget.

How long is your reception and what time are you planning to start the after party?

    Ceremony at 3pm

Lawn games from end of ceremony to 5:30/6pm when dinner begins

Reception to end at 9pm ish

After party (people can stay as long as they want)

I figured drinking for 5ish hours for all guests. Also, there are a number of guests who do not drink, but I'm calculating as if all guests did to be on the safe side.

Boxes? Do you mean cases of wine? Because 26 cases of wine is a metric shitton of wine. That's almost a thousand glasses of wine.

No, she means boxes of wine, depending on the size, usually 2-3 bottles worth.

I don't know what that is. I googled it, and it showed me cases of wine.

It's literally wine in a box.

    Nooooo! Lol.

    Boxed wine. Like

    bota box: http://www.botabox.com/

    black box: http://www.blackboxwines.com/

Most boxed wines are three bottles to a box. They also last significantly longer once opened, so I don't have to worry about wine going bad.

While I know there's a negative connotation behind boxed wine, black box and bota box are actually very good wines. Both sides of our family likes these wines, so I don't have to worry about someone not liking the wine. I was considering doing cases of local wine, but it's more cost prohibitive. So I'm trying to stay within our budget. Also, a couple of the wines that I considered buying by the case for the wedding (I live a mile from a vineyard in KY), I've had a couple people taste and half liked it but half didn't. I figured safest bet was to choose something that I knew a majority of our guests liked lol.

OOOH! I googled "box of wine" instead of "boxes of wine" and got those this time. How fun! They have cute little spigots!

I wouldn't mind 26 cases of wine though if I could afford it lol.

Haha! Sorry, I am no help and have no advice. But, I do like that you are planning this in advance so you aren't sticker shocked when you go to buy it! I think you're on the right track with your quantities.

@JCC thank you!! Smiley laugh I've been thinking about walking into the "liquor barn" to get a quote for what I want (their website says they do parties), but I wanted to bring in some #s. I was thinking I could place the order in advance, put down a deposit, and then pay off the balance closer to the wedding. And since I'd be near the venue this weekend, I was trying to get that all squared away!

I'm cracking up at purple kitten's comment. @Purplekitten you must be a lot classier than me if you've never had boxed wine lol.
