Aisle Runner - Where to purchase an inexpensive one?

Shamika, on July 2, 2014 at 7:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Where can I purchase a mint green or white aisle runner? Thanks in advance!

Honestly? Inexpensive ones are really not all that effective; they buckle, rip, they look terrible and people trip on them. I'd go without it; usually they are more trouble than they're worth unless you're on a carpeted surface (like a church aisle) and it's a really pretty one. (not cheap).

    Skip it!

@ Celia thanks for the advice! The ceremony is taking place outside, should I not have an aisle runner at all then? Figured I should probably have an aisle runner or rose petals. Figured not having one might be to plain. I only been to one wedding, so I can't decide based off of my personal experience.

We got one at Michael's for $35. It's really pretty/detailed, white..and thicker than others i've seen, seems like a good quality for the price. Good luck!

@Arik Thanks! I need to visit Michael's - never been to one and I know we have on in NYC. Are you having your wedding outside or indoors? And $35 isn't bad at all.

I got mine on Save on Crafts for $10.50. I wasn't going to do one but my FMIL convinced me :]

If we use one, this is probably the one that we will get because it's reasonably-priced and gets good reviews:

The carpeting in our church is a hideous red color, and I would really like to cover it. I'm more afraid of tripping and falling flat on my face while walking down the aisle, though. So I'm not sure if we will buy one and take the risk or not.

I don't like the look of aisle runners outside. We are using flower petals to line the walk way.

@FutureMRS I was thinking of using rose petals as well. This way I'm able to get the colors that I want and it doesn't have to be white. (Would probably mix gold with ivory.) I've seen pics of flower petals and I like that look. And what Celia said about the tripping. I do not want to have smthn else to be nervous about on the wedding day and I don't think I'll trip over rose petals, lol.

My venue recommended Michaels and said to watch for their sales. Apparently they have them on sale a lot.

The thin runners usually don't work well on grass or sand -- heels punch through it.

Even on concrete or pavers, you have to worry about the wind lifting/buckling it and creating a trip hazard.

On a slippery floor (terrazzo, marble, wood, etc.), it will slide around.

If you're outside use petals. Prettier, more sensible and organic ;-)

I agree 100% with Celia . We are destination wedding planners and specialize in outdoor events.

The only runner that will work, in our experience, on the beach for example, are a heavy burlap or jute. the inexpensive ones say they are "fabric" but are a weave of fabric and paper and will rip, buckle and get dirty etc. Rose petals are definitely the way to go!

Thanks Celia and Coastal Creative for the input here. I was planning on using an aisle runner lined with rose petals for our outdoor venue (on concrete). I hadn't even thought about the possibility of tripping! I think now I'll just skip the runner and keep the petals.

Do you have a party center near you... ones that rent out china, chairs, furniture etc.? We are renting ours from one of those places bc honestly I do not want it after, not sure what I would do with it
