Aisle Runner or a Dirty Dress?

Carol, on March 27, 2018 at 12:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
Hi all- I’m getting married by a boat launch and my mom does a good job at making me feel bad about not doing what she thinks should happen... she thinks I should have an aisle runner, but I have never loved the look of them. She’s worried I’ll dirty my dress and ruin it. I wasn’t really concerned about it because well.... I’m only going to wear my dress once 🤷🏼‍♀️

Did anyone have an aisle runner and like it? If you didn’t did you ruin your dress?

This is is my ceremony cite, although it will be way more green and not drained (they drain it for winter) the arbor will be on the cement by the dock, and the walk will start where the picture was taken.

TIA!!!

An aisle runner at a boat launch sounds like more of a hazard than usual! Skip it

I'm going into my wedding fully intending to ruin my dress somehow. So I'd say skip it.

If you don't want it, don't have it. If your dress does get dirty, you can always have it professionally cleaned afterwards.

If you use an aisle runner on grass, it needs to be securely pinned down or it is a tripping hazard. Have you considered using something heavier, like a persian carpet runner?

My venue doesn’t even allow aisle runners in the outdoor reception area because of the tripping hazard mentioned above!

I am getting married inside, but have absolutely no desire for a aisle runner because of the tripping hazard mentioned by PP. I can only imagine that it would be much worse of a hazard outside.

An aisle runner, to me, belongs in a building. Mixing it with a beach sounds odd. Skip it, girl!

THank you everyone- I definitely won’t do one! Too much to worry about. It’s pretty casual, it’s just a special spot to my in my local state park Smiley smile

My ceremony and pictures were all outside, we did not have a runner, and I was surprised how not dirty the hem of my dress was at the end of the night. You could definitely see a bit of an ashy hue at the bottom, we walked around a lot on pavement, and the aisle was a stone walkway, but it definitely wasn't black and/or tattered.

I'd be wary of an aisle runner bunching up, and then tripping on it.

The church we married in doesn't allow them because of tripping hazards. They never seem to lay right and honestly I am not a fan of them. I say don't do it. My photographs were all outside and my dress is totally fine.

I would say skip the aisle runner unless you want to create your own aisle runner with your pictures of you and your husband and when you met and etc

I'm not having an aisle runner because 1. it would cost an additional $1200 because they'd have to have their preferred vendor do it and that would require setup time for the church and 2. they have a red carpet which would be a nice contrast to my white dress, I think. I say don't get one and getting your dress dirty should be the last thing on your mind on your wedding day!

What? So she can walk all over their faces?

We didn't care at all about an aisle runner (dancing and your FS standing on your dress will ruin it more). My mom was surprisingly adamant about an aisle runner so we got one on Amazon and just dumped it after the ceremony.
