Aisle runner alternative

Danielle, on April 27, 2017 at 7:43 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23

My venue requires an aisle runner. Before I settle on the roll out one, has anybody used something else or made their own? I keep trying to decide what kind of material would work. Tulle maybe?

I don't have any suggestions on what TO use, but I don't think tulle would be a good option. Tulle gets stuck on a lot of things and bunches really easily. I don't think it would be good to walk on.

Orange and grey and sparkly gold accents. I looked at gold aisle runners on etsy and they want like $500 lol. I wish I knew what they used so I can do it myself

I agree with pp- tulle would be a pain...I wouldn't stress too much over something you walk on and no one will really notice!

Following Smiley smile I have an idea of what I want, but would love to read others suggestions or what they already have.

I wouldn't re-invent the wheel on this one. Tuille is going to be impossible to walk on and slippery too...

Get an aisle runner from your florist or party store.

    Why do they require it?

I'm not sure. I thought it was weird as well. It's an indoor venue, maybe they're protecting the floors or something

Danielle, try contacting the venue and asking why it is needed. They may end up with suggestions for you.

I love the rose petal aisle runners, they are just SO EXPENSIVE! If I find a good deal I am getting it, but if not I am just gonna buy a regular white runner and add some personal touches to it.

If u like the rose petals you could buy the cheap plain white one and then hot glue petals over it.That's my plan

Get a fabric one and not plastic. I heard the plastic is slippery.

I diy'd mine. Bought a fabric roll out one and added silk petals to the sides with hot glue.

Tulle is much too lightweight. The first few steps and it would be caught on your heels and might lead to potential disaster.

If you want to DIY, choose a heavier weight fabric like canvas. Carpet runners would work beautifully, but you'd have to get lucky to find a good buy. Check out Craigslist for a used one.

Outdoor area rugs would also work beautifully. An aisle runner is usually about 3 wide. If you find an 8x10 rug you like you could cut it into 3 pieces and it will cover 24-30 feet of aisle depending on which direction you cut the rug.

If you sew, you can buy a canvas fabric of your choice, rip it into the width you need, sew the ends together and bind the sides with bias binding or blanket binding. This one is 5 feet wide, so ripped in half you get 30" plus the width of the binding- about 2" on each side. You only need to buy half the length of your aisle. Use double sided carpet tape to secure the ends.

It would be stunning with orange or gold trim.
