Airbrush vs traditional makeup

Kristin, on September 27, 2016 at 1:13 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I'm trying to figure out hair and makeup for my wedding and can't decide between airbrush or traditional makeup application. There are Salon prices which are almost $500 for hair and makeup with airbrush. Or I found some semi professional makeup artists that offer airbrush for around $50. My skin is imperfect and my forehead gets fairly oily I want makeup it's going to last the whole day. Any suggestions or pictures of personal experience?

I've had airbrush makeup done at a beauty convention before, and while it looked nice at first, I hated it Smiley sad I will have to say it was lightweight and I couldn't tell I was wearing makeup, but my skin is oily and it didn't stay on too well for a full day walking around in the heat.

I had trials with both airbrush and traditional and I prefer traditional. My skin is pretty smooth, but very oily and I have big pores. I found airbrushing kind of sank into my fine lines and creases and ended up feeling heavy. The traditional actually felt much lighter like I had nothing on all day. They both had the same longevity. Even my mua recommended traditional over airbrush, but I think it's mostly personal preference and depends on your skin type.

If you go with airbrush don't use the $50 MUA. If airbrush isn't applied well it goes patchy and really doesn't look good. I also feel that with oily skin airbrush may wear off too quickly on you.

I had an airbrush trial and a traditional makeup trial. Traditional makeup caked up on me quick. It started sliding off and looking bad after a couple hours. I have super oily skin and hooded eyes so I got a lot of caking around my mouth, nose, and especially my eyes. No caking with the airbrush and it had a bit of a sheen to it so I looked dewy and fresh but not oily. I went with airbrush on my wedding day. I lasted 12 hours and still looked nearly perfect.

eta: @AshleyR, I have huge pores also. On the day of the wedding, my MUA actually primed my face with some traditional foundation then went over it with the airbrush. Pores were totally gone.

I prefer traditional for sure. I have oily skin and traditional makeup stays on longer and looks better on me. It is personal preference. For my pageants I have had many different MUA's use airbrush and traditional, and I always felt better in the traditional. I am using traditional on my wedding day. Traditional looks more "flawless" in my opinion. Airbrush tends to look dewy and sometimes patchy and I prefer to look matte and flawless. People with drier skin might prefer airbrush but I have never been a huge fan.

I am a huge fan of airbrush now. Seem like it depends on your skin and application. My makeup lasted the whole night with airbrush.

I did traditional and really enjoyed it. My SIL did airbrush and because of how hot it was it actually start to look like it was melting. I would ask your MUA what she would suggest.

My skin is pretty oily for the most part with a lot of acne. I went to a professional airbrush artist and loved it. It was very lightweight and held up super well the rest of the day. I would recommend you go with the more expensive artist. A $50 artist sounds questionable.

Here is a pic a few hours after the application. The only noticeable bump is a predominate mold on my forehead. I was also breaking out like crazy that week.
