Airbrush Makeup Question

Suzie, on September 9, 2020 at 10:07 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13

I had my hair and makeup trial yesterday and it came out amazing!! However, when I removed my mask after getting my hair done, my nose was smudged. (My makeup was done first, then I put my mask back on for the hair). I thought the point of airbrushing was that it stayed put and didn’t rub off, so I was a bit confused as to why it would smudge so fast. She also noted that she smudged a part above my lip when she was putting on the lipstick. She said on the day I won’t have to put a mask on after makeup, but I am still worried and am wondering if its worth it. I plan on being super emotional on the day (crier, here!) and I sweat easily, so airbrushing seemed to be the way to go. Any thoughts/suggestions from those who have used it? Thanks!

Airbrush is supposed to be a more even coverage and takes alot of skill to get it done right. She should have used a setting spray at the end to keep everything in place. That's the only to keep your makeup from smudging or smearing.

If it's not too late, I would consider looking for another makeup artist.

I would tell her you don't think you can do just the airbrush, you need to matte or add a finish. Express that you're a crier and are worried about smudging since the mask already smudged it (even if it won't happen the same way on the day).
Maybe if you're allowed to let the makeup rest longer on the day it will set better on its own?I'm sure your MUA can accommodate. I made notes for mine after the trial and expressed those concerns to her which she wrote down too! (Originally I wanted "dewey youthful makeup" and I still do, but less on the T zone.) Your MUA should be open to this. 😊

If you’re worried about tears, focus on fake lashes over mascara. Did she use concealer on your nose? I wonder if it was the airbrush foundation that rubbed off or the concealer. Properly applied and set airbrush foundation is usually pretty smudge and sweat resistant.

I have used every great primer / setting spray on my "regular" make-up. If I truly take my time and do it right, it barely smudges onto my mask, it's not perfect but dang near. If your artist is truly doing her job right, it doesn't matter if she's air brushing or using regular foundation - it should almost be flawless with barely any of it coming off and if it does, it shouldn't be enough to cause concern after the fact.

Spray some Urban Decay All nighter setting spray on your make up and it will stay all day and night!

I was wondering that too, if there was more time to let it set on the day, maybe she felt more rushed since I had my hair next. Thanks for the tips! I will express these concerns to her.

Oh, I am not sure if she also used concealer. I think she used a primer first, but I’ll ask about that too. Thank you! And yes, fake lashes! I tried some and they were great!

Thanks for the input! That’s good to know about primer. Maybe I’ll ask her to just do that with regular foundation. I had my makeup done at the same place last year for photos (difference MUA) and the regular foundation lasted all day. I am just worried about tears and sweat lol.

Other than the airbrushing, she nailed the look, so I would like to keep her. I’m thinking airbrushing just may not be the way to go. She did use setting spray after the fact, but I am now wondering if it was rushed a bit, since I had hair next. Or perhaps my face just isn’t meant to be airbrushed lol. (Also, I swear I responded to you last night, but don’t see it, so apologies if you got it twice!)

A few weeks ago I tested my own makeup- I used waterproof Avon eyeliner - that lasted all day (6am) till the following morning. When I tried to wash it off - it was not having it, used make up remover it wasn’t doing it. I scrubbed my eyes raw to remove that stuff. The rest of my makeup was foundation and primer.

We had gone hiking that first day, shopping, in / out of stores, went out to dinner too. The ONLY thing I touched up that day was my bronzer / blush and finishing powder.

I told myself I had to remember that application because that would be how I do my makeup on wedding day
