Airbnb Venue?

Megan, on August 20, 2018 at 9:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

FH and I have been discussing having a small, intimate wedding next year. Today I thought about booking an airbnb as a venue. Has anyone here done this before? Any advice is appreciated!

I'm curious about these answers as well.
Especially if you're inviting numerous people, wouldn't you need to pull permits?

You just have to be sure that they allow events on the premises. Some venues have local bylaws with which they have to abide. If you try to be sneaky about it, and they find out, you will lose your damage deposit which could be sizeable for a large venue.

Yes, very much have to follow the rules for this. You will also have to buy insurance event or wedding insurance.

Most Airbnbs specify no events or parties are allowed. I know where I live there are event planning companies that work with private properties specifically for events so I would look into that over Airbnb/Vrbo.

I'm doing almost exactly this in 38 days! We rented a house (on airb&b) in Colorado, we're from NY, and taking 5 close friends, 1 of which got ordained online to marry us, and are going to get married on a hiking trail. We hired a photographer for 4 hours, have dinner reservations for after our "wedding", but will basically be on an awesome vacation with our favorite people! We are not actually getting married at the rental house, but when we inquired about renting it, we did say it was for an intimate wedding and they had no problem with it. I will add that it was a rental house owned by a rental company, not an individual. So that might make a difference. Also, the house we rented sleeps 14, so I'm sure to them, a wedding of 7 people wouldn't be an issue anyway. I'm assuming most people would have more than 5 guests, but I hope this was still helpful!

I looked into this in my area and the places that allowed weddings or events charged crazy fees like 6k! If u do find an affordable option make sure u get a signed contract with them because Airbnb renters can cancel ur reservation at any time.

I am doing this. Well, sort of - it is an air bnb but they also do have weddings there. I hired the property/accommodation and then have to pay an extra fee to hold the event there.

I looked into it but saw too many instances of cancelled reservations especially after sending out invites. I wouldn't take the risk

I’ve never used Airbnb, so I’m not familiar with their rules/contracts, but I definitely recall hearing at least once about a bride getting cancelled on and left without a venue. Again, no firsthand experience, but based on what I’ve heard, be careful.

We are having our wedding at a house we found on AirBnB but we signed a contract directly with the owners. They host about 10 weddings a year. Our invitation list is about 120 people which isn't a problem because the house has more than enough space to accommodate everyone under a tent in the yard. While the house is beautiful and didn't cost too much, the expenses have gotten out of control with all the rentals we've had to do. We have to rent everything: bathroom trailers, tables, chairs, cocktail tables, silverware, plates, all kinds of linens. We also had to hire a caterer and thank G-d we're using a food truck so that we don't have to rent kitchen equipment. On hindsight, I wouldn't have gone the AirBnB route because it's alot more expensive and alot more work than we expected.

From what I'm aware of (and please correct me if I'm wrong), it is technically not allowed and the owner has to get permits to get paid for hosting events at their residence, depending on the number of guests (sooooomething like that). I'm pretty sure it's only if it's a small intimate wedding with like 10 people (I presumeeeeeeeeee). Not sure if it's available in your area, but you can also try using peerspace.com to look for rental spaces~!

My FH and I are doing this. We are going through HomeAway though. The properties are privately owned and usually list if an event can be held there.
