Airbnb or resort for honeymoon?

Brittney, on December 2, 2016 at 2:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I've heard mixed reviews about doing Airbnb for a honeymoon vs going to a resort. I guess it depends on personal preference but I can't decide what to do. What would you choose?

I think it depends on where you are going and what you're expecting...

I personally would pick a resort cuz my idea of a nice honeymoon includes all inclusive food & drinks at my quick disposal Smiley smile

If you like the idea of a more private option I've done a lot of Airbnbs in Europe, and they were nice/cheaper options.

We booked a condo through HomeAway. It's still super nice and about half the price of a room at a resort.

FH and I are doing Airbnb because we prefer more privacy with a more relaxed atmosphere.

We've found several places that suit us well.

ETA: it is a lot more affordable as well.

I'll be going to a few places in Portugal if everything works out and plan on doing both airbnb and resort, depending on where we are.

It depends on what you're looking for; they're two completely different choices. I've done entire vacations in b&b's in Europe, bt not through Air....

I was thinking of doing Hawaii and we could also save money by making our own food

There are some awesome options for Airbnbs in Hawaii! We've started looking into it as wel. We've stayed in Airbnbs all over the country, and never had an issue. I'd look for a property where the owner lives off site, or where they have a separate guest house for you, so you have privacy. We once rented a condo in Florida that was owned by a guy who lived in another country. We loved having total privacy and the convenience of cooking our own food. We've also stayed in Airbnbs where we had a guest room in a family's home, and interacted much more with the family. That was fine for those trips, but on a honeymoon I want to be left alone Smiley winking

I'm not a fan of airbnb, we stayed in one a year or two ago. The boyfriend of the homeowner would come home drunk each night and stumble in our room to talk and talk and taaaaaalk every night lol

I'm sure ppl have had better experiences but idk I can't get past that one trip. And a honeymoon is definitely a time you'd want privacy

We have had good luck with vrbo.com though

We booked a VRBO near Niagara Falls for our Honeymoon. It's a little cottage on Lake Ontario and comes with kayaks! FH and I love kayaking and outdoorsy stuff, so it's perfect for us. More expensive than a hotel, but not by much.

My friend just stayed at an AirBNB in Hawaii a few weeks ago and she had a really great time. It was also pretty cost effective.

If that's what you're about, it could definitely be worth your while.

Would like to add we're going to Maui. Staying in kaanapali. Also @gonnabegalloway the homeowner does not always live in the place while you're there but OP make sure to look out for that!

We're doing airbnb for our honeymoon in Sedona and Phoenix AZ. It was way more cost effective than the resorts. Plus we saw very mixed reviews with the resorts that made it hard to pick. We ended up finding a few great airbnbs that have amazing views and we are booking the "whole house" not just a room so we get the seclusion we want!

It depends on what you like to do. If you want to swim and drink and eat and stay in your nice room- do a resort. If you want to experience a new place, do airbnb because you will be a part of whatever area you are visiting. You will eat the local foods, go see things you've never seen, whereas a lot of resorts keep you on lockdown and you never really see new things.

I'm doing airbnb! Of course it won't be as luxurious as a hotel that makes your bed for you every day, but I've had amazing experiences. I love that generally you get a full sized apartment/house with a fridge and washer and dryer. It's private and, of course, way cheaper! We are going to Italy and I'm so excited to stay in an Italian home Smiley smile
