AirBnB Honeymoon

Debra, on April 5, 2017 at 8:54 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

Hi! We are thinking about going rogue from our travel agent and planning this honeymoon ourselves using AirBnB (she said she can't help us if we decide not to do a hotel she books). Has anyone planned their own trip using AirBnB? We are thinking Greece at the moment, but we have some time to think about it. Any experiences?

Oh good point! We need to keep the cost down and this may be a good way. I feel like all we need is a nice view and a bottle of wine for the evening entertainment so renting a place may be all we need.

We have used Airbnb a lot for our traveling in the US. Never had a bad experience and have used it now 4 times. I recommend, just like anything else read reviews. Best wishes

It's completely doable...whoever your AirBNB contact will be ask them about things to do and nearby food/grocery options. You don't want to get stuck in the country side somewhere more than a bike ride from everything. So research the area.

Airbnb can cancel on you so have a backup plan just in case.

We are using Airbnb for a few nights for our honeymoon in Ireland. Check reviews and remember that American standards differ from Euro standards when it comes to homes.

Yes!! We love Airbnb! We used it the last couple times we went to Maui and a friend of mine used it in Paris. Currently looking at renting a house in Bali on Airbnb. I highly recommend it if you love to travel without spending a fortune.

I've never used a travel agent. It's a lot of fun to plan your own trips! Go for it!

We've used airbnb, vrbo, and homeaway several times. Most recently a house in Barbados with a personal chef. I'm all for it just make sure you select a property that has several reviews.

I use AirBnb every time I go on a trip (unless I'm staying with family). I'll definitely be using one on my honeymoon. I want a kitchen, full sized bathroom and living area to be comfortable the whole time. Even though we will probably be on a beach or out and about most of the time, it's still nice to come "home" to something comfortable.

FH and I used airbnb exclusively for our two week trip to Iceland and Germany and could not be happier. We saved money, met the locals and we had a kitchen available. Just check the reviews for each place Smiley smile

We are going to Greece and used a travel agent locally there. She knows the area and is available if anything goes wrong. We'd rather spend the extra money for hotels to ensure our trip goes as planned. She also booked all of our transportation between the islands and some activities. It was worth it. We also don't to stay in houses or condos for our honeymoon. We want to have the 5 star hotel experience, private beaches, spa days, etc our whole trip.

This is the first time we've ever used a travel agent but we chose to because of the more complicated agenda.

We will be doing a combination of AirBnB and hotels for our honeymoon. We will spend the first few days in a hotel because FH in particular likes the service aspect of it: having someone to greet you, make the bed, bring you extra towels or room service...that sort of thing. After that we will be switching to AirBnB for the rest of the trip. I prefer living among "real people" when I travel, and the affordability factor is great too!

FH and I have used Airbnb quite a bit for trips in the past and I highly recommend it. We used them in London, Glasgow, Florida, and Cape Cod and every single experience was great. We were cancelled on in Orlando, but he gave us enough time to find a new option so it's worth noting it could happen, but we didn't have any trouble calling an audible, either.

And, most importantly, we've saved drastically by going this route. I swear each trip we've paid the same price for our entire stay as we would have for one night in a hotel.

ETA: I'm also encouraging my wedding guests to look into AirBnb options since NYC hotels can be outrageously expensive (even with the discount we got for our hotel block). My parents, aunt, nana, and brother + wife and kids are all staying in one giant AirBnb and it's a significant savings that way!

Thanks all! I am definitely going to look into it! Love hearing about where y'all went. While we like the resort feel, I think that we would be ok with a place that would save us some money. Maybe a combination of the two may work as well.

P.S. Barbados with a personal chef? Tell me more!

We spent two weeks in Japan airbnb hopping, and it couldn't have been a better time! We saved quite a bit of money, and the locals hosting were more than happy to answer questions or show us the best spots around town.

Like anything, it can be great or terrible, just be sure to do your research --- read the reviews from people who have stayed there, check the host's rules, etc.

I've not been to Greece, but from our trip my only other piece of advice is to make sure you know how you're getting to and from the airbnb (I did a whole bunch of Google-mapping between our eight stops to confirm I knew which train station we needed to be at, etc).

FH and I always use airbnb. Choose someone who has a number of good reviews. It has always been positive for us.

I've never used AirBnB but I've heard horror stories about reservations being cancelled by owners at the last minute.

We've used VRBO several times in the US and Caribbean and haven't had any issues.

Make sure you read the fine print about fees and deposits. Fees can double the rental rate and deposits can sometimes have a laundry list of cleanup/checkout things that must be done before it's refunded. I've never had a problem getting my deposit back though.
