Afternoon wedding - dj or no?

Lauren, on February 21, 2018 at 1:13 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

We are getting married the Saturday before Christmas in the afternoon. I don't have the timeline planned just yet, but I imagine we will do the (quick) ceremony around 11:30-12 and the reception will immediately follow (all at same location) and last until about 3pm (that's the time we have the space until). This is a second wedding for my fiance and I, so we only plan to have about 40-50 people. The majority will be family with some friends (early 30s).

We're having open bar, but I am torn on what to do about a DJ. My first thought was that it seems weird to have a DJ during the day. We were thinking about having my brother with sound equipment just setting up speakers and then creating a playlist of music. But I know from experience that a DJ does more than just play music. And I don't want the reception to end up feeling boring!

Help!! Any suggestions??

I went to an afternoon wedding with a DJ and it was just as fun as a night time wedding. I would spring for a DJ/.

We got married at 11am, had a DJ for our reception and our dance floor was packed.

I also got married the Saturday before Christmas (December 23rd this last year). I had 40 guests, but I wanted to go all out. It was a 2nd wedding for both of us too, but for us that didn't matter because we really wanted to focus on our guests' experience. Everything was about our guests. We had live musicians at the ceremony (violinist, cellist and pianist), solo guitarist during cocktail hour, and 2 bands during the reception (a 5-piece band during dinner and a 9-piece band for dancing). Since we were having a wedding at Christmastime, we wanted to show our appreciation to our guests for taking time out of their very busy schedules to spend a very special holiday with us. Creating this atmosphere allowed our guests to really enjoy themselves and get in the holiday spirit.

You don't have to go all out like we did, but I do recommend that you treat your guests to a great experience by at least hiring a DJ who will help set the mood and facilitate the order of events. Christmas weekend is a special time of the year and your guests should be shown a good time for coming to your wedding during this holiday weekend.

DJ or band - no matter what time! I love to dance at a wedding, I would be super disappointed if there was none!

I agree. Hire a DJ or a band, you and your guests won't be disappointed.
