Afternoon vs evening

Emma, on September 26, 2019 at 2:05 PM Posted in Planning 1 10
Hi we are debating whether to do a afternoon wedding or an evening wedding. The date is 9/3/20 so it's on the Thursday before labor day. I know our VIPs can make it to either time. I am wondering what the pros and cons are for an afternoon wedding and pros and cons for an evening wedding.

Thanks!

If you're having a Thursday wedding, I would say evening considering the majority of people won't be off work until 5.

I would do an evening wedding any day of the week, especially a weekday!

I think an evening wedding will likely be more convenient for your guests. This way they won’t have to take a whole day off work, just cut out a little early.

I would recommend an evening wedding because people generally work the Thursday before Labor Day.

I agree with everyone else, an evening wedding for sure. More people can attend, you have more time to get ready, more time for photos before the ceremony. I truly can't think of any pros to an afternoon wedding.

We are doing a Thurs evening before a holiday as well. Our wedding is at 5:30pm so that people can work half, if not, most the day of the wedding.

Definitely evening, as late as possible! In the afternoon people would have to take off Thursday and then just go back for 1 day on Friday and then be off for the long weekend... as a guest I’d much rather go to work Thursday, go to your wedding at night, and then either just be tired for work Friday or turn the 3 day weekend into 4 day if I could

The pro of an evening wedding is the fact that it will make it much easier on guests to attend during the week. The con is the lighting situation. I'm being forced to do a first look now because I'm getting married in October and there won't be enough time for me to take photos after the wedding with the sun setting so early. So if you're getting married outside and are really against the first look thing (I was), I'd definitely search what time the sun sets wherever you are getting married in SeptemberSmiley smile I'd also consider the date thing if it's not already nailed down. Most people I know get Monday of labor day off but not Friday... so having it on Thursday would require them to take an entire day off plus a portion of Thursday. Have you looked into Sunday? Then they'd have the entire next day to recoup.

For a weekday wedding, I think evening is most considerate for your guests— that way if they’re local they won’t have to take the whole day off work, or if they’re traveling they won’t necessarily have to do so the day before.
