Afternoon outdoor photography

I’m having an outdoor ceremony on a lake. I am wanting to have the ceremony at 2 pm however I know this is one of the sunniest parts of the day so I’m wondering if photos will still turn out okay at this time. If anyone has had an afternoon wedding outdoors and has photos please share!!

I had mine done outdoors on a summer day. and i felt the sunshine really added nice lighting to my photos. but then again, this is also something where a good photographer will know how to utilize natural lighting appropriately.

We got married at 4:30 pm, but our ceremony and reception were indoors. However, we wanted some outdoor photos taken with our bridal party. We did photos with our bridal party before the ceremony at 2 pm. We got married in July on one of the hottest days of the year so outdoor photos were very limited. We had our bridal party photos taken before our first look so we couldn't use the same spaces for photos because we didn't want to risk seeing each other. My husband's photos with his groomsmen/groomswoman were taken mostly in the shade like under the roof awning of the hotel and in carport. My bridesmaids/bride's man complained when we went outside because it was like 100 degrees so we only took like two photos outside and the rest were inside. Part of the problem was that our photographer posed us in a way that the sun was directly in our eyes for the outdoor photos. My husband and I took some photos of just the two of us outside at approximately 5:15 pm and the sun was still really blinding. Originally we talked about getting photos on the train tracks and at a park a few blocks away, but the sun was unbearable. If I had thought about it, I would have boughten cute sunglasses for the bridal party to wear for the outdoor photos, but they probably would have still complained about being too hot. The groomswoman didn't even want to wear the robe I bought her because she said she was too hot. She started undoing her dress as the reception was ending at 10 pm because it was still like 80 degrees then. The photos with his groomsmen/groomswoman, the one me with my bridesmaids/bride's man, and one of just my husband were all taken between 2:00-2:30 pm. The one of my husband and I was taken at 5:15 pm. Outdoor photos are really beautiful, but the sun can make people overheat or be blinding so I would consider this when deciding what to do.

It’s not ideal for being in broad sunlight. A cloudy or overcast day is actually better but we can’t predict the weather. I would schedule later in the afternoon. If you have raccoon eyes from high sun, there isn’t much the best photographer can do to eliminate that.

We took most of our photos around 12:30-1pm which was pretty bright out. Luckily it was partly cloudy so it wasn’t quite as bright as it could’ve been, but still pretty sunny. Honestly I didn’t even think about the photos having the potential to not turn out as well until I read this post 😂 I think our photos turned out amazing and I never noticed any negative effects from the lighting. If you have a good photographer they will know how to handle all kinds of lighting situations!

I think you’re right! I honestly didn’t think of it either until someone pointed it out to me but I would think a professional photographer could make it work!

Thanks Smiley smile I've been to Texas so I don't know the weather there, but I certainly hope it isn't as hot as it was on my wedding day. Even with the air on full blast it was still incredibly warm. I felt bad for the guys in full black tuxes.
