afternoon or evening

Cassie, on June 14, 2017 at 3:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

What should I write if my wedding is at five o'clock

Would it be afternoon or evening?

Our wedding is in December so at 5pm the sun is already setting.

I wanted evening for our 5pm ceremony but my parents and the woman who did our invitations said it's afternoon, and evening is 6pm.

That is what I have always heard 5 in the afternoon but, I keep thinking, after daylight savings 5pm is already dusk and the sun is setting by 615-630pm

My wedding is at 4pm and I was told to write evening.. as long as you don't write morning I'm sure you'll be fine. I would put evening though

According to Emily Post, "in the afternoon or evening" are not necessary.

Technically "evening" starts at 6, but I think most people would find it odd to see 5 called the afternoon.

Just leave it off. Traditionally it was only included if there could be confusion on whether the event would be happening in the AM or PM hours. Nobody is going to show up for your wedding at 5 AM.

5 pm is considered afternoon, and evening technically starts at 6 pm.

ETA: but honestly, I dont think it is that big of a deal either way. You are right that it feels like evening at 5 in the winter.
