After reception transportation

Pinotgirl, on May 7, 2015 at 8:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

FH and I decided that we were going to get some type of shuttle for guests and ourselves to go from the reception to the hotel we have blocked rooms at. I am trying to figure out what kind of bus/shuttle/limo I should book? We have about 140 people coming but I obvioulsy have no idea how many people will not want to drive, or will want to come back to the hotel. So FH wants to use the hummer limo which holds 20 people, he argues that it can make a few trips since its a 3 hour package. I think it is better to get something bigger, closer to 35-40 people. What do you guys think? Is there anything I should factor in to my decision? I was originally just going to get a school bus but that was shut down.

We are getting a school bus. It fits the most and is the cheapest. We looked into a bigger limo and it just didn't make sense for us. We are assuming there will be almost 100 people going back so the school bus will make 2 trips. If we got anything smaller people could be waiting 45 minutes to get back. Plus we are having an after party at a restaurant in the hotel and the quicker we get people there the better chance there is of people staying. If you have to wait 45 minutes then people will be going to bed.

I would maybe look into getting a charter bus. They hold about 50 people. It would be more expensive but its better than a school bus. Do you really want people waiting for the limo to come back?

It may be too late, but does the hotel have a shuttle? Ours did and it was the BIGGEST factor in choosing that hotel. For $250 until 2am, the shuttle will transport guests to and from the hotel all night long.

Honestly, if you're in a normal "city" area and not in the country and have a lot of local guests,I don't even think I would go with the hummer but a couple of passengers vans....they are going to be a lot cheaper and there is a chance you wont need the 3 hour minimum.

Are all of your guests staying at the hotel? I would say choose something bigger.

We are renting a trolley that fits 35 people to shuttle our guests since 75% of them will be staying at the hotels, it made sense. And it is cheaper than a limo.

It is also doubling as the transportation for the wedding party from the church to the reception venue after pictures are done.

Melissa, that is what I have tried telling him if everyone can't go back together its not going to be as many people partying at the hotel. I also worry that if people have to wait they might get in their cars and drive.

Maltese, I wish they have a shuttle but only to the airport...so dumb I would gladly have paid to use it.

I want to just get a shuttle for like 40 people and call it a day. I may just have to put my foot down with FH.

I am asking my hotel if they provide transportation. I really hope they will. If not, I plan on doing a charter bus. It holds about 45 people. A limo is just too expensive and small.

I would think for the same price as a hummer limo you could get a bigger shuttle or two smaller shuttles. Those things are usually expensive. How long is the drive between reception/hotel? A hummer limo also seems silly for a 5-10 minute ride.

Ours was about 30 minutes 1 way so we only did transport for wedding party, their SOs, and immediate family. They would have shuttled but we didnt want guests waiting an hour for it to get back.

In order to do pre-ceremony shuttling and after reception we booked 2 separate reservations with the same company so we didn't have to pay for someone to sit around for 5 hours.

Will some people be using their own vehicles? I've been wondering the same thing about transportation from the church for ceremony to the hotel for reception. We've decided we're going to put a little box on the RSVP cards asking people if they'll want to use the transportation service or not so we can get a more accurate headcount. I know in our case we'll have a lot of drivers, but a lot of carless people as well.

It is like $100 more for the 40 person shuttle, it is probably a 10/15 minute ride and everyone on the shuttle will most likley be drunk anyways.

Christine that is a good idea about the note on the RSVP! Thanks ladies, I am just going to book the bigger one.

Shuttle bus is the best option, especially if guests will be drinking, you'll be able to transport the most amount of people in the least amount of time. I agree with @Christine, do a note on the RSVP to get an accurate headcount.

I am not even doing any transportation, 85% of my guest list lives near by and wont even be staying at the hotels.

i think we may get a town car to drive us around that night, or maybe just uber it lol.

ETA: one of the hotels we were looking at offered a shuttle for $200
