African American Wedding Weave

Dean to Be, on August 19, 2013 at 11:44 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Funny.....I found this WW forum because I was looking for weave options for my destination wedding and honeymoon (Jamaica). I've never had a weave before and I wanted to try it because I just can't see having braids for my ceremony. The forum I found is a couple of years old so I wanted to know what the latest trends are today. If there's another bride out there who choose a wet-n-wavy weave for their wedding please give me some advice on what hair to choose and recommendations for salons to visit near the Washington D.C. area would be helpful too. Thanks!

Check out http://munaluchibridal.com/ for hairstyles - I don't have fake hair so I can't help with that, sorry.

Braids can be very nice if you wear them the right way, I have been rocking my braids now forever and I've learned some nice styles on YT. But if you want the wet and wavy hair then by all means go for it, it really depends on your budget for the hair, if you are going to Jamaica that means you want it to get wet so you def want some good human hair. I would craiglist a few vendors in your area or even find a beauty shop and they can give you ideas of what hair to use.

Gosh, there are so many hair options with extensions now! There is a new hair trend, and people are spending a lot more on hair extensions than in previous years (Malaysian, Brazilian...etc). I don't wear hair extensions, but I'm at the hair dresser weekly, so I am familiar with it. With that being said, have thought about a sew-in? Since it's for your wedding ceremony AND HM you may want to go with one of the more expensive, but better quality hair.

I've received a quote for a weave and it did give me a case of sticker shock! I've heard the terms full cap, enclosure, sew-in....... not sure what will be the best option but I'm open to whatever will look the best curled on the wedding day and will last throughout the HM. I also want to be sure I won't get something that will become easily tangled.

Yes, you could easily spend $300 or more (including the hair) for a sew-in/weave! I've seen girls come in who have spent $150 on hair alone! If you're not use to hair extensions, I would do one where the leave some of your real hair out (i.e bang or your hair covering a side part).

Here's a sew-in with real hair covering a side part. it's not a wet and wavy hair, but it may give you some ideas. I think leaving some of your hair out gives it a more natural look.

That's what I've been debating on. For the hairstyle I want on my day is a side ponytail, probably curly or low side bun and I'll definitely need to add hair. There's a place called the Weave Shop that one of the vendors recommended on one of the threads and they are reasonable. Maybe search to see if there's something like that in your area. I'm in New Jersey and will be going over there soon to see if they can do the style I want. Or they can just add hair and I'll do it myself. I'm good at doing my own hair.

ETA: @almost Mrs. White - How does Tree Braiding differ from regular braided extensions. Looks the same to me.

No help here. despite my pic, I will be a natural hair bride. I figured I would do a textured up do for the ceremony and do afo, twist/braid out for the honeymoon. I'm interested in hearing what other women have to say about hairstyles though lol. Good luck!!!

@almost Mrs. White. I've just recently heard the term tree braiding but I've never seen it until now. Thanks for the video. I can add tree braiding to my list of questions when I call stylist in the area.

@Ashley. Your hair does look cute!

@Carmiel. $300 would be a steal compared to what I've heard so far! I saw a pic of a bride who left some hair out when she got the weave done and you could certainly see the difference in texture after she came off of the dance floor. I would hate to have pictures like that. lol. I'm weighing the pros and cons of leaving hair out though because I do want it to look natural. Not too drastic from my normal, everyday look.

@Nay. I've been told that a side pony or bun would be good options for a wedding day weave. Not my first pick for my wedding day look so I'll be spending some time looking for as many options as possible.
