Affordable unique NJ venue?? Help!

kyra, on July 31, 2017 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

Hi guys. So I'm looking to do a wedding in October, maybe November of 2018 for like less than $80 pp. But I'm a little picky in that I really don't like ballroom-type receptions. I'd really like to have some scenery and be able to see the autumn trees. I've poked around on here for ideas and have gathered like a couple of places I'm so-so on.

I really wanted to do a tented diy wedding, but it seems that's gonna be pricey af. So really any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated Smiley smile

Oh also, I'd like to stay in South Jersey, but I'm pretty open to like the tri-state area.

No one seems familiar with the vendors tab today.

DE doesn't have sales tax, but I don't know how far away you are?

Not necessarily "unique" but I am getting married at Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood. All inclusive and reasonable. There may be packages that are under $80 pp in the off season. Iam paying about $95 pp for a lot of stuff, including premium open bar and an ice cream sundae bar.

Another awesome option (that I wish I had considered further) is Double Nickel Brewery in Cherry Hill. You would bring in your own caterer and etc.

ETA: Also, you can consider Antony and Cleopatra's in Sicklerville (I think) - it's hideous inside but cheap and they have a garden.

I'm getting married in NJ and I struggled to find $100pp. I think a smaller restaurant reception might be closer to your price range. Contact a tooon of vendors for pricing info. Be wary of really a la carte menu pricing, when you're building up a custom menu it doesn't sound to bad at first but it really starts to add up fast.

A good, reasonable, caterer if you have to bring one in to wherever you are, is Due Amici in Cinnaminson.

Unique equals pricey. That's how my unique wedding ended up in a ballroom.

    Better luck to you!

I'm getting married in NJ at Rams Head Inn and we looked at a couple of places

Renault Winery was around that price (85pp) but it only

Included open wine bar you had to add on up to an extra 20$ for beer or full bar.

I know Camden County Boathouse works with several caterers and one of them might be around that price but that would just be for food. I think

I would try somewhere you can bring in your own caterer so you can find one that works for you. Sayens house and gardens in hammonton might work.

PA is going to be just as if not more expensive to host a wedding. You might have luck in DE but my advice is to use the vendor tab or wedding spot. There are definitely affordable places out there if you search. Stay away from the shore though, the closer you get the more expensive it is.

80PP might work for food but it probably won't include alcohol or be all inclusive. Keep that in mind.

Nj is tough. 80.00 is tough, because to be there as a final price, you need to be at about 60.00 before tax and service, which will be about 28%.

Try the Hird Lake Spa, near Sparta

Valley Crest Farms, near Lebanon (you need to bring a caterer, but that's not the end of the world)

Camp Rickabear in Kinnnelonb (same, need a caterer)

    WillowWood Arboretum

    Bamboo Brook Arboretum

All of those suggestions are pretty far north for someone looking to stay in South Jersey. $80.00 pp will be easier the further south you go. I have heard great things about Masso's in Glassboro as far as affordability. There is also something called Rode's Barn which is in Gloucester County (I think) that might be within your range.

This damn state we live in is so expensive!

You might also want to consider a Sunday wedding off-season (November to March, I think)

We saved a ton of money switching our date from October to November

I literally grew up around the corner from massos and it will definitely give you the most affordable wedding, and will be within your budget BUT if you're looking for something unique and non ballroom then massos is exactly the opposite. It's the most basic ballroom (though they do have a gazebo out back)

Also the food at massos is subpar.

But the family is nice, the facilities are good and youll definitely get more bang for your buck since it is so affordable.

Look up McFaddens Catering in Gloucester County. They work with a couple of cool venues, and they're fairly affordable. Lakeside Manor may be exactly what you're looking for actually.

@Munchkin I have never been there, so never got to try the food, I just know people bring it up as a cheap place to get married all the time.

ETA: Another option is Brigalia's in Sicklerville. They are pretty much a wedding factory, but the food is good and I've heard it's affordable. Basically, to do something unique it will cost way more. You could cut your guest list and do something unique at a restaurant?

@Elk it is definitely a super affordable option, but its also just really basic. We had all our sports banquets there when I was in HS. THe apps were basically from a box from costco last wedding I was at and the dinner was not much better then your standard banquet hall fair. They have been in business for like thirty years, but also NOTHING about them has changed in 30 years.

If cost saving is what you're looking for its a perfectly acceptable place - you can get an open bar outdoor gazebo ceremony, full cocktail hour and meal but its all very standard and basic. Nothing unique about i at all.

I also have a huge bias because I grew up right there and went to so many weddings and banquets and dances there so I'm wouldn't say not to look into it at all (especially if you are on a budget) because there isnt anything WRONG with it, its just all very standard.

ETA: I know a LOT of people who use Brigalia's! You can also try Auletto's They have a cool wine Cellar for Cocktail hour! We looked into Luciens Manor (another wedding Factory) and they were VERY affordable for an off day peak season, would probably be even more so for off season!

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm looking at like 150 people, so I'm thinking a restaurant reception wouldn't fit us all. I'll check out these places you threw at me. I really appreciate it! It is a soft price that I'm going for, so I understand I'll likely be looking at more than that. My goal is as cool and cheap as I can get. I'd also be super okay with November. I have only a slight understanding of what is/is not peak season.

My package is 80 plus tax and grat, that rounds up to 101 per person. I booked that in 2015. My venue is in Toms River. I was able to have the 2015 prices. I doubt that you'll find anything that decent in 2017. But good luck!

Tough price for NJ. We are at $95 per person (open bar, cake, napkins+) without tax.
