Affordable, eclectic New Jersey wedding

Jessica , on January 2, 2018 at 12:03 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
I am newly engaged - my fiance and I have just started the arduous task of finding the perfect venue. We don't really like a typical wedding venue, so I was hoping for some advice on non-traditional venues in the tri-state area (beer gardens, loft spaces, etc). We've seen a few venues in Hoboken (Kolo Klub, too small) and Jersey City (Battello, being remodeled) that we love, but for some reason or another will likely not work for us.

Does anyone have any advice for interesting venues that are worth looking into? Wedding will likely be late fall and we'll probably have 150-200 guests.

Thanks everyone!!!

I like your post. I’m looking for something similar, same time of year but a little smaller. Was looking at rustic but upscale barns.

I think your guest list and location are going to make affordable nearly impossible, depending on what you view as “affordable”.

I think the realistic part of my brain knows you’re right... I think a big part of this will be us trying to decide what gives - guest list, venue or $$.

New Jersey is CRAZY expensive. Affordable doesn't really happen here.

Jacks Barn, the Liberty House, Stone house at Stirling Ridge, and the Camden Aquarium come to mind as fun, unique venues.

What's your overall reception budget? I live in Westchester county and average around here is about $150-200/head before tax and service fees. I've had a couple friends hop across the Hudson to get married in Jersey, so you could do the reverse and expand your search to Westchester. Lots of beautiful venues here.

Another post when Celia would have had great info. Might be a long shot but try doing a search in the forums for NJ venues. I know she has posted advice on venues before. Also consider looking in PA if you are close. Would be less expensive.

I’m a NJ bride who was ran out of NJ by our budget lol. Our original plan was a summer camp and we looked into many and they ended up being the same price or more than a traditional venue. You can try Jack’s Barn, Bass Brothers Garden, Grounds For Sculpture. You can also look into museums in Philly - I know people who got married at the Franklin Institute and the Please Touch Museum. Mercer Museum and the Philly Anthropology Museum st Penn has a cool space. There are some interesting places outside of Philly too. We ended up at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resoet by the Delaware Water gap because it was the most affordable.
