Advice wanted! Altering a dress with a very low back

Kate, on June 7, 2019 at 2:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Hello,

I am having second thoughts about my dress and want to make sure I feel comfortable on it on my day. I have already paid for it, so need to make it work in the alterations. I have two questions:

1. I am worried the back is too low and will show my back fat. Any ideas on how I can get more coverage there (without a cap, wrap, bolero, etc.) I have ordered extra fabric, what can I suggest?

2. I want to add cap sleeves.

Any advice on what to do about the back/sleeves would be appreciated! Thanks!

My dress will only arrive two weeks before the wedding! Eek.

Have you revived the dress yet or just tried on a sample? I think you’ll look great in it with adding sleeves or raising the back! I also think you’ll lose some of the elegance of the dress if you try to add sleeves or cover up more of the back, it doesn’t seem too low to me!

I might put a sheer panel across the back, maybe with some small lace details just to make it look like it belongs.

If I were you I'd schedule an appointment with a seamstress ASAP to get on the schedule. LYou might be able to sit down with her and pictures of your dress to discuss your vision so that you're on the same page for when the dress does come in.

I think it’s gorgeous but if you feel uncomfortable in it, I like the suggestion above about maybe a sheer panel back being added. I think sleeves would totally change the dress but the back panel would likely look ok. Good luck.
