This week my FH and I have been discussing food options for our reception. We found two plated, table served dishes - one beef, one chicken - that we like and the price difference per plate is about 2$. We have a food and beverage minimum to meet, and even if everyone chose the more expensive plate, I would still be under my food minimum so price is not an issue here. FH and I liked the idea of giving our guests a food option with their RSVP, then I realized we'd have to do a seating chart. We could offer these same dishes as a "self serve" option still maintaining our food minimum, but we like the idea of our guests being served.

So, any advice from yall on what yall chose and how yall decided self serve v. plated and served dinner? Is the seating chart work worth it? What did guests think about being told where to sit?

You will still want to some kind of seating chart anyways. There is typically confusion unless people are told which table to sit at.

We're doing a plated meal because we have a guest list over 150 people. we wanted to avoid people having to wait in lines to their food... but now some people may be done with their food before others are even served.. i feel like there is no best option.

PLEASE do a seating chart!!! Regardless!!!

I like the idea of a plated meal (we're having one). One thing about people serving themselves vs. plated is that people will take larger portions when they serve themselves. Also, you lose a sense of elegance/formality with a buffet.

But whatever you decide, PLEASE make a seating chart. Your guests will really appreciate it!!
