Advice on how to proceed with photographer late to deliver photos

Anthony, on March 12, 2024 at 9:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
We were married in November with a delivery of photos in “approximately 10-12 weeks” per contract, of which I have a copy. I texted during week 11 kindly asking for an update as we were about to leave for our honeymoon and would have limited access to email/text and received no response. I emailed then during week 13 again asking for an update. I received a response that they had serious health issues and had been very sick recently, but had a “goal” to upload photos by the end of the month of February. I still have no photos, she has not reached out to provide an update, and it is now 17 weeks past the wedding date and a week and a half past when she intended to have photos delivered. I don’t want to be insensitive but I’m getting nervous. I reached out again via email (as my initial text was never responded to) this week. Does anyone have any advice for how else I could handle this or if I should do anything different?

This is a tough situation! Do you trust this person that they actually have the photos and are just behind?

As someone with chronic illness/disabilities, I definitely understand running into medical problems that cause delays. But I don't think it's insensitive to ask for updates on when you will receive a product that you paid for. As long as you aren't being mean about it, but you clearly don't seem like a person who would be.
I would probably ask her to upload whatever she has done so far, and then continue uploading as she completes them Ideally while giving you regular updates on how much is left. This way you would be able to access at least some of your photos, and it would also give you confirmation of whether she's been working on them at all!

Sorry, the formatting got weird, and a period removed, but I can't edit it.

Thank you! This is helpful. Thankfully I received some preview photos a couple days ago so I know they’re being worked on. Just the lack of communication was making me super anxious. Thanks again for your response!

I'm glad you got some preview photos. There is not too much to do when someone has sole possession of your wedding photos. Hope it all turns out well. Did you get some edited photos?
