Advice on backless/low back dresses

Alecia, on March 2, 2017 at 10:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I know little to nothing about what kind of alterations can be made to a wedding dress, so looking for some advice. My dream dress (see photos) has a very low back. The problem with this is I have a large birthmark in the middle of my back that I do not want showing, so therefore I can't wear a dress with a low back. I want a dress with a neckline like in the photos with 3/4 sleeves, but the only ones I have been able to find have a low back. What are my options here? Would material be able to be added to the back of a dress like this? The most common dress seems to be sleeveless, so would it be easier to pick a sleeveless dress that has a higher back and then have sleeves added to it? Should I just keep looking and pray I find a dress that has all these features already? Forgive my ignorance I am such a newbie with this stuff haha. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey there! It will likely depend on the designer and the shop where you get your alterations. I would look for a shop nearby that sells that dress and ask what your options are. If worst comes to worst and they can't do anything with that specific dress, they may be able to recommend some designers who make dresses that are more conservative. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Here's one that is sold at David's Bridal- I remember trying it on and loving how the back looks.

Bridal Shops usually have boleros and straps handy. Ask for their options

I love that dress. There is also the option of makeup to cover up the birthmark if it really bothers you!

I also have a large patch of dense freckles on my back from when I had a severe sun burn as a baby. My dress is strapless and I'm a littler nervous but I figure with a spray tan it will be less noticeable. I'm also trying to embrace that it's part of who I am and try to not feel self conscious about it, but that's always a struggle. I feel your pain Alecia V! Maybe get a dress with an illusion back or see if a spray tan would blend it in to the surrounding skin tone?

Consider covering the birthmark with professional makeup.

A lot of suggestions I had, was to order matching lace/buttons to be added to the back as a panel to close it

Embrace your birthmark honey! It's you. But It is possible to get the dress you want and just tell them where you would like the back to start. I hope this helps!

(I've read so many mean comments tonight so I'm trying to speak positive things only in my comments)
