Advice for wearing wedding dress in car?

Michelle, on October 7, 2020 at 10:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
I’m not paying for a limo or any other service but I’m wondering how I’m going to get into the car with my long dress without wrinkling everything. I was planning to change at the venue but not sure how it will work when we drive to the nearby park. Anyone have experience or advice?

Maybe I have someone drive with the full back seat to myself? Lol

That’s what I did. And very unsafely, I didn’t even buckle up 😳 (something I never do)
I had plenty of space to spread my dress out and not worry.

Honestly I doubt it. You could bring a handheld stealer but you don't want that stress.

How long is the drive? I sat in the front seat of my sports car while my BIL drove, and there were zero issues. I was in the car for about 20 minutes, and then spent another 10-15 in the car waiting for everyone to move from the parking lot to the spot we got married at (Plan E, park).

I would get dressed wherever your ceremony will be, but after that all bets are off for wrinkles - and quite honestly *no one* notices.
We were trying to steam my dress with me in it before the ceremony, and it was definitely still wrinkly in the skirt when I walked out. Didn't rise to my top 100 thoughts during the day.
If I get back my official pictures and it looks like I'm wearing a crumpled tissue, I'll just get my partner to Photoshop smooth them out. 😂

I am thinking about it, since the getting ready from my sis place to the venue is about 30 min i should probably change there. The nearby park for photo shoots is 8 min.

    What material is your dress?

For our wedding, I was supposed to get ready on site and the ceremony and reception were all happening in the same place, but we switched to a tiny elopement due to Covid and I had to get ready at home in my tiny bathroom. I had to very carefully get in the car with my dress on and needed help shutting the doors but my dress was lace and didn't wrinkle in the 20 minute drive to our venue. If your dress isn't a wrinkle prone material you might be fine for a short drive. You could also consider purchasing a portable steamer and bringing it with you and just steaming out any stubborn wrinkles on site, while you are wearing the dress (note: I'd only attempt this if the wrinkles are on the skirt and the fabric can be pulled away from your skin, as it's possible the steam could burn you otherwise).

That’s what I did. The drive was about an hour long, so I had the whole back seat to myself. I was laying back mostly without ruining my hair, and no seat belt. When we got to the venue my officiant drove me and my sister in his car to our waterfall spot, so I was just hoping my dress wouldn’t wrinkle. My sister was great helping me too.
