Adopted daughter/father songs

Amber, on February 11, 2013 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 9 23

My dad adopted me at 9 yrs old, and all the father/daughter songs I found talk about first breaths, wrapped in pink, first steps and events he was not present for. Does anybody know a great song that is not about from birth?

"What a wonderful world" since I'm sure that you are both glad that you found each other even if he did miss a lot of the "milestones". Another good one would be "I hope you dance". FH is a DJ and this is kind of a common one when a parent/child isn't sure what to use. He's actually using it for his mother/son dance and will be switching from dancing with his mother to his step mother halfway through.

I love "I hope you dance" like Soon to be Mrs K said. It is a great song, my FH is using it for his mother/son dance. Another song that would work well is "My Girl"

Personally i dont think that matters. If he is your dad, those songs are a symbol, not meant to be taken so literal. Find a song that makes you think of your dad! Ask your dad's opinion too! My dad picked out two songs he really wanted and if you look at the literally, all the lines dont make sense. But the overal meaning is perfect for us.

Thanks! Yeah my dad doesn't wish to offend anyone by using a song that will make my mom, who is my biological mom, and her family feel uncomfortable by the fact that he wasn't present for those lil milestones. I really like "I hope you dance" I think that's the one we will choose. Thanks!

I can't remember who sings it but "I loved her first" is a great father/daughter song. Smiley smile

There is a song by brad paisley that is called "he didnt have to be" its beautiful. Its kind of from a mans perspective but i tear up everytime. It talks about how the stepfather stepped in and became a man and a dad to the boy.. soo sweet.

As a dance instructor one of my favorite songs for father daughter, or mother son dance is "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts.

I was adopted too!! :-) I hope it has been as an amazing experience for you as it has for me! My adoptive father and I are dancing to: Daddy's Angel by T. Carter.

I was adopted at birth, but my biological father and biological mother are actually coming to and/or are in the wedding, so I wanted something special for my adopted dad for the dance.

I was adopted by my dad at 4! I can totally relate...same goes for buying birthday and father's day cards, haha. To make it more complicated I found my biological dad at 21 so I need to pick a song to dance with each of them too!

I could use a few ideas too! My dad adopted me when I was 10 and would like a special song for us.. he wasn't thereven for my firsts so I really don't want to use a song that touches on them....

I was adopted at 16 so even the other songs that don’t talk about first steps and things like that but also the songs that talk about the daughter being little, they don’t really apply to me either! My Dad is the most amazing guy ever and I really want this to be special! Please help me!!

I ended up letting my dad pick and he chose “My wish” by Rascal Flatts. And at that momen t everything melted away, all that mattered was my dad was holding me, and he chose me, not because he had to but because he wanted to.

So awkward but similar case here? Im also adopted but one of my biological parents is still alive (couldn't take care of me in recovery yadayada doesn't really matter) and hes also coming to the wedding blah blah. My bio dad and I are dancing to What a wonderful world and my adopted dad and I will be dancing to brown eyed girl. Both songs don't really require having to have known the other since birth or for most and I picked both these songs off of a father/daughter dance list I've long since lost
Didn't mean to make it about me if i did I just wanted to establish that I Can Relate sorry

My dad picked I hope you dance by Leanne Wommack. I don’t know if that helps anyone, but maybe ask your dad what he wants or thinks! That’s what I did!
