Addressing widows on invites and table arrangements

What is the appropriate way to address widows on invitations? Would they still be a Mrs? How have some of you handled this situation?

I put M______________ so they can fill their names in..

If the couple is married I put Mr & Mrs John Smith on the name cards

If they are coming alone I put Ms. Betty Smith or if there married but not bringing a spouse I put Mrs. Lisa Young.. Hope this helps..

Yes, you still address her as "Mrs.".

If the husband has died it would be Mrs susan doe. If he was alive it would be mrs john doe. as if you were inviting her to a shower or wedding as a single.

Historically, the appropriate title would be "Mrs." for a widow. But knowing the individual would help to determine if "Mrs." or "Ms." would be acceptable. I am a widow...if I were not in a relationship I'd still use "Mrs."....however, I am in a relationship, engaged, so I use "Ms." on most everything.

Either way, you're safe with "Mrs.", ("Miss" is the only thing you should not use)

Yes, My Dear Husband pasted in 2008 We were married for 9 years and dated for 6 years before that. I always considered myself Mrs.C; Funny thing is after I marry FH I will still be Mrs.C because his last name starts with C too Smiley smile

A widow is addressed exactly the same as a married woman. So if you are using "Mrs. John Doe" for a married woman, definitely do not use "Mrs. Susan Doe" for a widow. ("Mrs. Susan Doe" would imply she is divorced, not widowed.)

"Ms. Susan Doe" is appropriate for a woman, regardless of her marital status.
