Addressing Save the Dates

Courtney, on December 7, 2015 at 11:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Just got our Save the Dates!! Now time to start addressing them. I have read many articles on how to properly word the addresses (or more the guests names) but they all kind of say something different. Although we are very laid back and not very formal and will probably hand out as many as we can in person during holidays, I would like to try and properly write the names/addresses as correctly as I can.

My plan was:

For couples to put "Mr. & Mrs. (last name)"

Individuals to put "Miss/Mrs/Mr (first & last name)"

For families "The (last name) household" or "(first and last name of individual) and family/kids"

Also, what about an individual who has a partner that you don't know very well? Address it to both of them by name or just the individual? Or individual and "and guest"?

Advice? How did everyone else word their guests' names? Thanks!

I think what you put is fine. I went a little less formal on my save-the-dates, and rather than putting "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" or "Mr. & Mrs. John Smith", I just addressed it as "John & Jane Smith". For non-married couples, it would read as "John Smith & Jane Doe". For my invitations, I may go the more formal route of using Mr/Mrs/Ms/Miss.

I did that as well and for family's I put. "Mr. and Mrs. So and so and family." though I didn't out much thought because they are just save the dates and I don't think people really pay attention to exactly how you write it.

I think I have changed my mind already lol. I just can't imagine calling my college or high school friends by Mr or Ms. I think I'll save that formality for the invitations. Maybe for the adults/elders I will though

Except don't use "Miss" for anyone over 12. Sorry, that is a huge pet peeve of mine!

I think casual is OK for friends. I switched mine up a little bit depending on the guests.

My invitations are Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. The inner envelopes are Jane and John and the save the dates were Jane and John Smith.

    Hope this helps!

I decided to be less formal on the STDs and left off "Mr and Mrs." I just put people's names, but will do the Mr and Mrs thing when we send invitations. As for significant others, I reached out to people if I didn't know their SO's full name so I could include them.
