    This should help with wording.

In terms of requesting a particular dress, that should be conveyed by word of mouth.

Some may not want to though. Particularly the retired vets who may not even fit their uniforms anymore. I think you and FH should talk with each person to see if they want to wear their uniforms. This kinda only works if it's all or none.

You don't request. It's not a costume to ask them to pull out for you. They will either ask you about wearing it or they will just wear it. There is also protocol and regulations for who can wear what uniform where.

About addressing, follow guidelines on that link Donna gave you.

I wouldn't request that they wear their military uniforms - I'm Army and proud of it, but I have to be honest - I DESPISE having to wear my dress uniform for anything besides a military funeral. If they're up for wearing their dress uniform, then they will - on their own, anyways. I don't think it has to be an all or nothing type of deal with it, but I don't think that you should request that your guests wear something that they may not want to wear.

Yeah, DH is not a fan of wearing his dress blues a lot either. They are super tight and restrict movement a bit. He jokes they're like that to force everyone to have the same posture.

@ Pan - haha! They probably were designed for that exact reason Smiley winking And I don't know how it is possible, but by the end of the evening, those dress shoes that have to be worn with the uniform hurt more than any pair of stilettos I own Smiley atonished

I asked people to wear them to mine - hubby wore his mess dress, and Dad, brother, groomsman, sabre guard, hubby's commander, Dad's best friend and a couple others all wore Bravos or service dress.

There aren't many people who you asking to wear their Class A's. I'd leave it off the invitations, and make phone calls. Tell them they are welcome to wear their dress uniform, if they choose too.

I, like TinaBoBina, am former Army. Wearing my dress uniform is not very comfortable. I'm also alot more cautious about everything! I worry about spilling food, or tearing something. I prefer to only wearit funerals, and formerly to military balls. I wore it to a wedding once, and it sucked for me.

I'd extend the invitation by phone, and make sure you realize it's kind of a big thing you are asking them to do.

You don't request it. you can ask by word of mouth.but some people don't like the dress uniforms so they don't wear them unless they have to. I have family and friends in the military and only my cousin wore his uniform also navy. but my friend didn't want to wear his even though I said he could. so its up to that person
