Addressing invites / Stds for blended families?

Brittany, on April 24, 2018 at 1:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

So I have plenty of time for both of these, but I'm going through my tentative guest list to see how many STDs I'm going to have to order, and I'm starting to give some thought to how I'm going to address them when the time comes.

And there is something that has stumped me.

How do you address an invitation or a STD when the blended family it is being sent to have different last names? FH has one of these on his side, and I have one on my side as well.

For example: I have a cousin who has a current boyfriend and a daughter from a previous relationship. I can't say "The Smith Family" (since they don't all have the same last name), and since we are including the child(ren), it can't just say "Jane Smith and John Jones" or whatever. FH has a cousin who has a current girlfriend and 3 children from his previous marriage.

Help! How would you address this situation? I hope I have explained this well enough! If any clarification is needed on anything I will be more than happy to provide it Smiley shame

I'm not an expert on etiquette, but you could do:

    1) Couple with separate names, plus child(ren) under 18

Line 1: "Mr. John Jones and Ms. Jane Smith"

    Line 2: Miss Ashley Smith

    Line 3: Address

(Assuming you have room on your envelope for all those extra lines) This is what I did personally.

    2) Separate envelope for couple, each kid gets their own invite

This might make the kids feel like special guests. The problem with this is cost of invitations and coordinating RSVP's
