Addressing invitations

Hello all! I am getting ready to send out my wedding invitations. I was just wondering what is the proper way to address them. For instance if you have Sam and Sally Smith going do you address the envelope to say “Mr and Mrs Sam Smith” or “Mr and Mrs Smith” or “Sam and Sally Smith”? Thanks I’m advance for your help and input.

I believe the correct format is
Mr. & Mrs. Sam and Sally Smith
That’s how we addressed our STDs.

I think the proper way is ‘Mr. & Mrs. Sam Smith’ but we are doing ‘Sam and Sally Smith’ because the ‘correct’ way bugs me and feels like sally belongs to Sam. But it’s important to me so we’re doing it the ‘incorrect’ way.

I honestly just would have put Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Is that not proper etiquette?

We did Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith.
I think all ways are correct though, just a matter of preference.

We also did Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith, but I agree with PP that it made me feel a little uncomfortable because it seems antiquated not to refer to the wife by name.

It also depends on the formality of your wedding. Since ours is semi-formal, we're addressing those as:
John and Jane Doe
John Doe and Jane Smith
Doe Family

We did Mr. Tom and Mrs. Barbara Smith according to the knot, it's the official way to go haha

We did Mr and Mrs Sam and Sally Smith but as PP have said its your preference! I don't think guests will really care how they are addressed IMO.
