Address Change

Anne, on February 26, 2017 at 8:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

FH and I are having a house built that is slated for Mid June delivery. My house goes on the market this week and his goes on the market in April. We are using my address for RSVPs.

Our addresses will be changing in June. It could be before the wedding or shortly afterward.

How do I best notify my guests of the address change or the fact that the address will be changing if they choose to send a gift to my house after the wedding.

The wedding is a DW, where everyone invited is an OOT guest. Many are flying so I don't see them dragging a gift with them.

I will change our addresses with the post office but I don't want there to be any confusion along the way. Especially since the house numbers haven't even been assigned yet. I only know the street name at this point.

Did anyone else have this dilemma so close to the wedding? The original delivery date was late August-early Sept but they are way ahead of schedule due to the mild weather we are having in the D.C. area.

Thanks

Make sure to register. That way, you can update the shipping address on your registry as needed.

What about getting a post office box until after your house is ready? That way you won't have things lost in the mail.

You could have all mail and packages forwarded to your new address for up to a year after your move. That's what we did. Check with your post office.

ETA: or have everything sent to your parents or a friends house until you know.

    I'd have everything sent to a friend's/family member's house.

Oh I like the PO box idea. I don't want to burden friends with this and all of our family is out of the area/state. I wish I had posted this a few months ago because I just spent a small fortune having custom return envelopes and address labels made for the invites/RSVPs.

    Thank you for the suggestions.

If you want them all to have your new address, you could have a small sign at your wedding, maybe next to the card box, that says "We're moving!" with your new address on that. Or put it on your wedding website or make a Facebook status that only your wedding guests can see.

When you send thank yous after the wedding you could add "we've moved! You can find us at....". My cousin did that with their baby announcement cards they sent out! I know that doesn't help with mail before but it's a way to get the word out!

I would definitely look into a PO box for RSVPs!! Even with the change in address, the post office can be really slow and it can take WEEKS or more to get forwarded mail.

Make sure you update your registry address so that anything that is shipped gets sent to the correct address. I like other's suggestions to have gifts shipped to a close friend or family member's house, if that's an option.

I also like the idea @KisstheKochs had of sending out "we've moved!" cards in your thank-you's after the wedding.

Yes, we have a registry through Amazon and BBB. I also like the wedding website posting idea. I never thought about having a sign at the wedding with the new address. I have had " we've moved" address labels made in the past so I like the idea of using those on thank you notes.

Again I really appreciate the suggestions.
