Adding tulle to dress instead of a slip?

Tiffany, on January 30, 2019 at 11:32 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I have a black mermaid gown. Instead of wearing a slip, has anyone had their tailor add tulle or organza to the inside of the skirt instead? Detachable or not? Wonder if I could maybe even DIY it? I see, but only quilts. If it’s simple enough I could probably manage. Rather tailor does it tho lol.
I would love to add the layers in plum and burgundy to match my colors!

Do you have a picture of your dress? I'm sure a tailor could do it. I'd love to see your dress!

Most wedding dresses don’t need a slip because there’s an inner lining. Are you sure you need one?

It’s not here yet it’s en route. Hopefully it goes ok since I ordered from China. Can’t find a dress in black I like to save my life otherwise. This is the inspiration dress.

So, I have a mermaid dress and I thought I wanted extra crinoline underneath as well. I asked the tailor if she could show me what that looked like. She did and I hated it!

Maybe ask your tailor to show you so that you can make sure you like what you're seeing before you go through the effort of adding it yourself?

My dress has a similar shape, I purchased a $30 crinoline poof slip off amazon because it’s cheaper than having the dress tailor add poof at alterations.

like your idea of adding your colors- in my opinion- if I were in your situation maybe call the tailor and ask what they’d charge to do it, it’s your wedding dress so looking professional and lasting the night is important. If you could buy your tulle at a fabric shop and have the Tailor do it that also might save you money. But I still think a black crinoline slip off Amazon would be cheaper . Maybe the Taylor could even add burgundy tulle to the crinoline slip ?

Where did you order it from? Most of the time dresses that come from China are made very cheaply and very poorly unfortunately. I have heard so many horror stories.

I ordered on DH Gate. This is my second marriage and I ordered from China then too (eBay. Back then that was the one option lol) I obsessively research sellers before purchasing. That’s the key, not just buying the first dress from the first seller. But in case it’s a flop I ordered plenty early so I can come up with a backup plan. Comes in next week, we will see!
