Adding train to dress

Jamie, on November 26, 2017 at 9:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I found the perfect dress but it only has a sweep train. I want a chapel or cathedral train. I found the same dress used but it's 5 sizes too small.

Question: if I order the dress in my size and buy the used dress to be used as matching fabric/appliqués will a seamstress be able to extend the train?

If you truly found the perfect dress there would be no need for all those alterations. But alas, ask a seamstress who would be best to answer this type of question as well as provide you the cost

I would send your seamstress a pic, at least n ask their opinion.

Understand that a used dress most likely will not color-match to a brand new one. That would affect the ability to add something that looks as if it was always there.

I would definitely ask the consultants to ask if the designer does extra train length additions for a price. it would be easier and more cost efficient than having a seamstress painstakingly take apart and re-apply applique for a longer train out of a dress that's smaller.

I keep picturing a big seam where the old train and the new one meet, myself - but I am not a seamstress by any stretch of the imagination

Norman, who designed your dress? My designer didn't say it was an option
