Adding straps to a strapless dress!

Krystal, on October 17, 2021 at 6:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone had ever ordered extra material from their dress store to create off the shoulder straps for a strapless dress. I attached some pictures: one shows when I said “yes to the dress” and those were just sample lace pieces they used to show me what they could do if I purchased extra material, one is of how they were hemming the top part and one is a picture of the “extra material”. What did your extra material look like? It kind of looks like they just took the material from what they hemmed because I returned two weeks later for a second fitting and the hem wasn’t done yet, they only measured how the straps would be sewn in. I’ll be getting my dress 3 days before my wedding 🙃😭Adding straps to a strapless dress! 1

My seamstress bought some material since she didn’t have to cut my dress. It was just tulle like material. I’m not sure where she got it.

I bought a yard of fabric for my dress since I'm using it to cover a shoulder tattoo. $75 for a yard of fabric was steep though, but he's my forever man so it was worth it Smiley smile

I originally had straps that were maybe... half an inch wide, and they've added the sleeves to those, so not from strapless, but I'm actually having 3/4 length sleeves added to mine, so I had to buy a meter of the dress fabric. I haven't tried it on since she's finished them since we've been stuck in lockdown here, and then we postponed our wedding, so I'm not due to see her until next month, but I'm very excited!

I added long sleeves to my strapless dress and was able to buy additional fabric (tulle and lace appliques) from the designer so it matched the rest of my dress perfectly. The store I bought my dress from was able to purchase it for me directly from the dress designer and the cost was extremely reasonable (after I'd already spent so much on the dress haha). I haven't seen the finished product yet, but I'm excited! Best of luck to you!

What other alterations did you get done? Adding on the straps, a hem, and bustle had me walking out the door paying $800 😭🙃
