Adding sleeves to your dress at Davids Bridal

Spiffy, on September 16, 2016 at 4:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Does anyone know if DB will add sleeves to your wedding dress? I have my first fitting in January and I'm really considering having some sort of sleeve added but I wasn't sure. Is that something I would need to inquire about before my fitting in January or could they figure that out at that time? Thanks for any info

My dress looks super similar to yours and David's bridal added removable sleeves onto my dress. They just used toole and put tiny clips on the front and back so I can put them on or take them off whenever I want.

Only problem was... They had it for over a month, they specifically stated on the sheet that they were supposed to be removable straps... and when I went to pick it up the straps were attached to my dress!!! I just about fell over thinking they ruined my dress..

I had to come back a week later (and another hour drive) to have them correct it in that time... I couldn't believe it... they were the ones that wrote on the sheet (and orginally suggested) removable straps.

And they charged me 88 dollars for two pieces of toole and 8 small clips... my alterations lady said she would have charged me 8 dollars......

When I was there for my fitting, another girl was having hers done too - she had a strapless satin dress, and they had actually sewn a jacket (or bolero maybe, not sure) into the dress! It looked beautiful, just like a lace top and sleeves

ETA your dress is absolutely gorgeous as is, btw

I think you are better off going to a well known alteration place near your home than DB. I have heard so many complaints about how they are overpriced and don't provide quality work.

@chantel14 it's spelled tulle. And sleeves would have been made of mesh. Not tulle. They are two different fabrics.

OP, yes we are able to add sleeves to a dress. You can bring the fabric you would like them to be made of as well as choose from options in the alterations department. Cost differs from case to case depending on style, difficulty, and fabric.

I love your dress!!! I would leave it the way it is, it is stunning! If you are set on adding sleeves (and I don't know what kind you are even thinking) I would say maybe just a cap sleeve or even just off the shoulder straps out of matching material?

Thank you ladies!! I was thinking about cap sleeves or of the shoulder actually. I am a little self conscious of my arms and i guess in my mind some kind of sleeve would draw the attention away from that area but maybe not lol

My FSIL got her dress at David's bridal and she got full length sleeves added to it their as well. Not sure of a price. But make sure it is put together good. Her dress was a heavy ball gown type and where it was attached together started to separate the day of the wedding so we had to safety pin it back together.

They will add sleeves to any dress UNLESS the dress is by one of the designer labels (White by Vera Wang, Wonder by Jenny Peckham, etc.). Legally they aren't allowed to alter the designer gowns except for basic changes like altering the gown to fit your body better (example: bringing up the hem so you don't step on it, shortening straps so they don't fall off your shoulders, bringing it in where it's loose). I know because I asked at two different stores and was told the same thing by their staff, both the consultants and the alterations department. I bought a Wonder by Jenny Packham there and they said they can't and won't add sleeves because of legal agreements made with the designers that their designs won't be customized. If you have a designer gown from DB, you will have to get your sleeves added elsewhere. But if your dress is not a designer gown, they will pretty much alter it any way you want.

Gorgeous dress. I am certain davids can do this for you. I am also certain a davids will charge and absurd amount of money for alterations. I would do some research and see if you can find a local seamstress.

I found an amazing woman who is going to take my dress in, bustle, alter the neck line, sew in a belt, hem and make it more trumpet style... For $50!! She did several friends of mine and her work is amazing. Davids would have changed me probably $400!

They may be able to but keep in mind they may charge you about $100 per sleeve!
