Adding Sleeves to a sleeveless dress

Samantha, on May 27, 2013 at 1:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I have a bit of a problem, Im a plus size bride and i bought my dress. I absolutely LOVE it! Its georgeous, is a perfect fit, (which is rare for plus size brides) and its at a great price. The only problem is its sleeveless and im really self conciouss about my arms. i want to add something like a cap sleeve to the dress but make it a little wider and have them hand off my shoulders. Any thoughts or other suggestions??

Any competent alterations person should be able to do this. When we bought our dresses, we were told that one reason so many dresses are made strapless/sleeveless is that you can always add straps or sleeves of your choice to a strapless dress, but the other way around doesn't necessarily work.

You can do some great things with something as simple as a cap sleeve. It could go straight over the shoulder, do an off the shoulder, or combine and do a longer cap sleeve. Or find a great bolero!

I, too, am having sleeves added to my dress. Not necessarily because I don't like my arms, I just like to feel more control on my..."top" area. LOL!!! I think the cap sleeves are beautiful, and because they can be worn a few different ways, will be a great addition to any dress. Good Luck Smiley smile

I'm going to add cap sleeves- they're more like wide straps.

I love the cap sleeves look and I'm going for it just for the style. I would say go with that but there are many options. there are some really nice cover-ups specifically for wedding dresses. Theyre so kool cuz the dress look all like one piece, but it isnt!!! I saw one similar to the second one Sarah posted and it was really neat cuz the girl wore it backwards so the front was lace covered but the back was a little exposed. I looked really nice. I'm not saying you should do that, just that there are various ways of wearing cover-ups. I think they're really fun!!!
