Adding cap sleeves/wrap/straps to dress?

RoxyBarns, on July 8, 2015 at 8:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hi there! I am fairly new to the site, I have commented but this will be my first post. I am thinking of adding cap sleeves/straps to my dress and would love thoughts/opinions. I will be wearing my hair half up half down but with a hair piece. I have been browsing styles and I think I really like this esp the back... Any opinions if this would go well with my dress or if not this suggestions as to what would or if it should stay the same? Thank you in advance!

I would be concerned that the color may not match, and I'm not sure how it attaches to the dress, although I do like the look of it. Have you taken your dress to a seamstress?

Sorry.. I think it looks really cute on you sleeveless! Especially with your hair half up and half down! You would almost need to buy the sleeves and take a comparison pic with the sleeves to see which you like better. From personal experience, I bought a dress that was sleeveless, added sleeves and hated it. It looked pretty but it was just uncomfortable after I added the sleeves. I ended up ditching the dress. Not sure if this applies to every add on, but I had a hard time with adding sleeves.

Oh no, that is what I am worried about getting them and hating them. I am also worried about the color but there were options for white or ivory and my dress is white so I would just be hoping they matched. I have talked with a seamstress and have researched a lot about having them attached I guess it isn't that hard, as long as they know what they are doing of course. I was considering a dress with cap sleeves before I got this dress for some reason I am just really into that look at the moment lol. I heard David's Bridal has detachable sleeves/straps so I may try going there first just to get an idea of how it would look. Thank you for the opinions Smiley smile

I loooove the cap sleeves/straps and think it would look beautiful with your dress! Trying some on with your actual dress at David's Bridal seems like a great first step. I'd think the seamstress can pin them so you can get an idea of the look and feel before ordering. Maybe check the return policy so you don't get stuck if they're not the same color as your dress?

I bought a strapless dress and added sleeves with back detail and I loved it. The seamstress just ordered extra lace from the designer and used that so it matched perfectly. I'd definitely talk to a seamstress and see what they can do for you.

I actually tried on that exact dress. I would be concerned with the ebay seller since those are not his images. What product would you be getting?? Are you getting the actual Mori Lee product or a knockoff? If it doesn't matter to you then great. Smiley smile Personally I would be worried since they are not posting a picture of the actual product. That's quite fishy to me!

Overall, I thought it was a pretty piece. Smiley smile

Thanks for the opinions everyone Smiley smile I'm thinking first step will be finding something similar to what I'm thinking and seeing it in person. Then again it is only about $50 for what I was looking at on eBay. I may have posted the wrong ebay link I was looking at, same product but different seller there were three. I guess if I can't find anywhere with something similar I can just order and resell if I hate it... My dress is already somewhat unique because the bottom has been altered so this would even make it more unique Smiley smile

If you want to try that one on then go find a boutique that has Mori Lee Gowns. Show them that picture. They should know what one it is right away. Smiley smile

Those are pretty, but I don't think that particular one matches with your gown (and it looks beautiful strapless). If you're set on having straps, maybe take a picture of these straps to the bridal shop so they can compare similar ones to your gown and see how it looks together.

Definitely try some detachable sleeves in person first. The sleeves/back are pretty but my first impression is that they don't flow well with your dress design. Good luck!

See if you can order an extra yard of the material the dress is made out of to use for the cap sleeves so you know it matches. That's what I did when I ordered my dress. It's what the shop suggested we do.

I think cap sleeves would be great, and something a little different than a strapless dress.
