Adding boning to my dress?

Rebecca, on March 8, 2018 at 11:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 7

I've been trying to find a way to add more support either to my dress or some kind of undergarment that will work. The problem is that it is strapless and backless, so I'm having a hard time. The gown does not have any kind of support already sewn in. If anyone has any suggestions for me to try, I would love that! Thank you!

The gown! You can see in the mirror behind me that the back is not covered besides by some translucent beading.Adding boning to my dress? 1

What does your seamstress suggest? Can she add cups? What about an adhesive bra?

From my knowledge, cups don't do anything for my big chest. The boning that was already in my dress was a life saver.

I haven’t talked to a seamstress yet; I wanted some opinions about whether it looked like that was even an option. I’ve tried an adhesive bra, but I am large-chested and they do not offer the support I would like. 😕

In your opinion, does it look like I might be able to add boning into the dress? I think that would help.

I would talk to your seamstress. I've sewn and altered a bunch of my own gowns and it's so hard to tell what can be done just by looking. It's going to depend on the fabric of the bodice. Boning can destroy fabric if it can't take the shearing and twisting motion of a torso. Is the bodice fabric thin? The fabric around boning really needs some heft to it

I'm not experience in the area, but I don't see why not. Mine had boning all over, was a trumpet and more structure so it just made sense. To support your girls, they'd have to put boning, almost like a corset I believe. I know you want opinons before you go, but it doesn't hurt to just ask an expert even if they cannot do it. I'm sure they can though.

The adhesive bras werent an option for me either. When i had this issue before with a dress i found a bra that had a clear back strap that worked out really well. I would have a talk with your seamstress see what she suggests. I know in my dress the boning alone would not support me so i had the zipper taken out and a corset put in that offers the support needed. Are u against adding fabric so u cant see thru the back? That could be an option for u. The other thing u might be able to find is the support tape they make for when a bra just isnt an option .
