Adding beading to straps

Emly, on August 7, 2019 at 2:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 11

Looking for my crafty brides out there! I decided that I absolutely love this dress 😍 so I am going add beading to the straps as they are adjustable right now and I think make the dress look a little on the cheaper side. Being that the dress literally fits me perfectly I do not plan on taking it to anyone for alterations as I find that I'm pretty crafty and also my grandmother is very well versed in these things. So I am removing the drop sleeves and adding beading to the straps. My question is should I just sew the trim straight over the existing strap and adjustable piece? (Obviously making sure the strap is adjusted to where I need it) or should I sew on each individual bead? Should I leave the straps or replace them completely with other white fabric? Being that there is no other beading on the dress and after thinking about it I love the way it is so don't plan on adding beading to the bodice, would it look odd to have beaded straps? If I do add beaded straps should I also put the trim on the waistline? What trim would look best?
Give me your opinions 😁😁

Your dress is very pretty. Before you remove the sleeves, I would try it on and tuck them in under your arm to see what the dress looks like without them, because I think it’ll change the whole look of the dress. Since the straps are adjustable, you should be able to loosen them up to fit your arms in. When you’re adding the beading, I would put a new strap on. I think if you add it on top of the adjustable one, it may not lay as nicely and could come loose over the adjustable part. But I’m not a seamstress so I could be wrong. Since there’s no other beading, I would stick with something narrow and simple.

I like the idea of Jeanie about the straps, LOVE the idea of the diy, the beaded on the straps is so elegant and also maybe a belt, some of the photos have a white belt but maybe a beaded one too, and for the applications I recommend checking in the wish app or going downtown in your city. I am from texas and theres a lot of stores with applications for affordable prices. I believe the project is so exciting and possible.

I do think it would be a little odd to add beading to the straps when there is no beading on the dress. But the good news is, you can do the straps first then decide if you want a beaded wasteline and add it later on!

Daughter's dress came with beautiful beading on the straps, edge of the low back and the waist. It looked very coherent because it all tied together. One thing to be wary of is even straight from the manufacturer she found the beaded straps incredibly irritating on her shoulders (like they turned bright red within 5 minutes). The bridal salon had to add a thin strip of soft fabric to the underside and then they were fine.

I love the first one for the straps and the last one for the belt since it also incorporates pearls. I love your dress and I can't wait to see the customization's!

The beading on your straps would look really nice and definitely spiff up your dress! As a seamstress, my recommendation would be to pick the beading you like the best that is as close to the exact width of the straps as possible (probably options 1 & 4 would work the best). Just handsew the beading on top of the straps and voila, you will be good to go....I put beading on my prom dress and the hardest part was making sure I was getting the beading on straight cause you won't be able to pin it (probably).
