Adding Bagpiper to Ceremony!!

SimpleSeamstress, on May 9, 2015 at 3:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

So I had this idea to incorporate a bagpiper into my wedding as I did competitive Highland Dancing growing up and spent a lot of time around bagpipers. I felt shy asking my church music coordinator about it, I felt like I was being crazy adding another musician on, and worried that it would be loud in the church. He is on board with it but says I need to act fast. So here I am scrabbling to find a last minute piper. I have one guy saying that he is available and could do a pipe tasting (like a cake tasting) to see if I want to go with him. That is kind of hilarious! Here is a video of a wedding with what I want, it make me tear up when the piper starts playing. Anyone else adding anything special to their ceremony?

It's called Highland Cathedral. I found out it's actually a standard song that pipers play.

Gigmasters is a good place to start, but I am finding a lot of pipers in my area with websites since the ones on Gigmasters are booked up.

Yay! I'm happy that I could inspire one person! I am also going to have the piper play a recessional song like Scotland the Brave and then play a few songs after the ceremony. Price is around $250-$300 in my area BTW.

I just officiated a wedding that had a bagpiper -- it was great! The couple also did a handfasting using their individual tartans. Go for it!

We're going with a piper - only the piper, don't like mixing it with anything else unless it's others you'd typically see in a pipe band. Probably going with Flower of Scotland.

FH's side is all English born and bred but FH calls Scotland his home. Mine is all born, bred and still living in Scotland. Would have looked a bit daft not to have a piper.

I had one, and many of my couples do too. I recommend www.njbagpiper.com.

I absolutely LOVE the sound of bagpipes. I thought it would be weird since neither FH or I are Scottish, but they are super lovely.

We are having a piper as well given that my entire family is Scottish and FH's grandmother's side was also Scottish. I am being piped in to Highland Cathedral and out to Flower of Scotland.

We thought about a piper as well being that FH is Scottish. He was afraid of it being too loud for our venue, so we went with a Harpist istead. Still kinda incorporating Celtic culture.
