Adding a brother/sister dance?

Katrina, on March 25, 2017 at 7:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I was wondering if it woulf be weird to add a sibling dance to my reception? I don't want to do a dance in replacement of a father daughter dance, however me and my older brother are extremely close and I wanted to think of a cute way to highlight him. I was thinking maybe a dance alone for like a minute and then everyone else joins in? I'm not sure if that'd be weird or like too many dances? Love to hear opinions or other ideas of what I could do special with my brother. Thanks!

I'm not having a father/daughter dance but am surprising my sister with a fun dance to aint no mountain high enough (we used to lip sync it as kids) I think dancing with your brother would be a sweet gesture.

I like the idea of having everyone join halfway in. Smiley smile

I think it would be weird. I am very close with my brothers as well but could not imagine doing this. I think a speech is a better option.

I like this idea. have them join right after father daughter dance? I think the DJ can make it flow nicely. It'll be nice if the father / daughter song is slow then the sibling song brings a little excitement in, to start the party .

If you are talking about four dances, then that is too many. I went to a wedding once where they had bride and groom dance, mother son, bride and father, and then bride and uncle and it was insanely boring. We had two dances -- one with just me and my husband and then one that started out with just me and my dad and then my husband joined in with his dad and sister (dancing in a little circle) because his mom has passed away but we still wants to do a family dance with his family. In the third verse, my brother, SIL, mom, and baby nephew joined the big circle along with my husband's sister's husband (BIL). At the end, I went back to dancing just with my dad and it transitioned into a short robot dance and then we dragged everyone out onto the dance floor and the party started. I am biased, but I thought our two choreographed dances were very entertaining.

I don't see anything wrong with the idea as long as you allow people to join halfway through. A full dance might start to feel like too much.

Another option would be to ask him to do a reading for the ceremony.
