Add straps to strapless dress

Mary, on October 5, 2016 at 8:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18

I would really love some advice!

I originally had zero intention of EVER choosing a strapless dress. I originally chose a dress with straps and an open back, but my mother didn't really love it, so I agreed to look again. I wound up loving a strapless dress, and decided on it.. now I'm having reservations about it being strapless. I'm not too concerned with it tugging on it too much, but more the look of the dress. I'm going post a pic of my dress and a pic of a dress with straps that I really like. I'd love some advice on results of adding straps and if it worked or was a mistake or if they looked "added". I would hate for it to take away from the dress. (Id also like to add that I love my dress and will feel absolutely beautiful in it regardless if it has straps or not! I'm more just curious of people's experience and advice) thank you!

I had the same issue but I am 5 ft tall and having straps made me look boxed in if that makes sense. When she removed the "added" straps I felt so much more beautiful. But ultimately it is whatever you are most comfortable with!

If you are busty then go with straps for added support. Perhaps see if you can get detachable straps

Adding straps to mine. It looks like a totally different dress even with the little spaghetti straps. I love it!

Talk to your seamstress! Once you have it properly fitted, it shouldn't move anywhere and you might feel secure enough without straps. It will be beautiful with it without, so go with whatever you're more comfortable with!

I tried on a few strapless dresses at DB and I asked if they could add straps. They brought out several different options. I think it looked great and helped make the dress more appealing to my desires.

I too fell in love with a strapless dress...I surprised myself...I ended up putting removable straps on just in case I need them at the reception! It will give me peace of mind knowing I have them just in case! Beautiful dress!

I don't think adding straps wouldn't hurt, if you do a thin lace strap it would look beautiful!

I'm having short sleeves added to mine. I'll have pics on Sunday because they should be all done! I ordered extra fabric and lace appliqué from the designer so that they would be consistent and match with the dress.

I am adding straps to my dress! I absolutely love them! Funny thing is, I probably wouldn't have even gotten this dress if it weren't for the straps. I tried it on and the consultant showed me what it would look like with straps and I fell in love! Mine will be detachable, but I am going to leave them on.

I'm having my seamstress build straps from extra lace I bought with the dress.

I've seen straps sold on etsy.

And allure has straps and add ons you can buy to attach to your dress.

The dress in the photo with straps, was just a pic I found online, I believe that particular dress was designed with this straps. But that's the style of strap I would like to add. I've looked on etsy as well, found some detachable straps that would prob work. Going to check out Allure that was suggested in a comment above. But I'll prob take the advice of talking to the alterations place and see what options are available. Thanks so much for everyone's input!!

Whatever you're most comfortable with! Strapless dresses are generally built to hold themselves up so the straps would be more decorative than supportive. I'm adding straps to mine and I'm really happy with how it looks but one thing I didn't think about is the straps possibly falling off my shoulder so I'm prob going to need to get tape to keep them in place. Good luck!

I had DB add straps to my dress and when I saw the finished product it didn't look good on me and we didn't have time for them to redo them, so I just had them removed.
