Add straps or keyhole?

Deanna, on July 30, 2017 at 10:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Alterations appointment is on Sunday and for months I've been trying to decide whether I want to add straps or add a keyhole set up to my already amazingly beautiful dress. I just want straps of some sort.

I love my dress and it would look good either way but I just can't make up my mind. I'm about to rock paper scissors or something lol

First two pictures are my dress and the next few are the type of strap and the keyhole look I am wanting.

It is a corset back so I will comment a picture of what it would loom like with that as well.

What do you all think?

I feel like your back isn't low enough for a key hole. Maybe they could cut it lower?

    Adding straps would be easier.

But I would compare costs of each alteration and time.

But how come you didn't just get a dress with one of those options?

I fell in love with it and none that had these really felt right. I was told they could always add them and to not stick to a type that had them included.

This is just my opinion but I don't think whatever is going on in the front would look good with the straps/key hole...maybe it's just my own style to not mix that silver look with a lacey type strap/key hole. Ultimately, it's your decision obviously and your own style. Just my two cents but I do love the bottom row (especially the first straps)

Oh my!! GreeneBunny I love it lol how did the straps feel? I'm worried that with the type of lace and diamond things that it could get a bit bulky

It's hard to see because these are screen shots of a moving video and from the website. The dress is not white either so it definitely makes the front look it shouldn't belong or look good but it does with white. The silver is like diamonds and has little Pearls throughout so I was thinking of adding those throughout just a touch to blend girl to blend lol so just kidding

I always thought I wanted straps and a keyhole on my dress... I love how they look. I went dress shopping on Saturday and tried many like your pics. But I didn't love any of them. I was so disappointed that the image I had in my head didn't match the mirror!! Lol.. At last I tried a strapless dress which I always said I would never wear and I loved it!!!

I think your dress is beautiful as it is.

I vote keyhole just because I love them! However, I do think the back is too high for a keyhole so straps would be your best bet

I think I'd go with straps over keyhole but the fabric selection is off to me. I don't think lace will tie in that well with the dress you have.

Katy E. My dress is lace so I was wanting to find something like mine but haven't found very many thin lace straps that I like. I think thin straps might look a little off maybe? I'd have to see them on of course but I'm not sure just yet.

The bottom middle picture is my dress Smiley smile I am all about the keyhole dresses. but with a keyhole you have to add straps as well.

My friend has a similar dress. They are taking straps that look like the ones in your top right picture and instead of securing them on the back of the dress, they are just sewing them across her shoulders. It gives the illusion of a keyhole without it actually being a keyhole.

She also has a corset dress if that helps - it is the Maggie Sottero Ladonna I believe.

ETA: Essentially it will look like the bottom middle picture, but without the lace on the bottom of the keyhole.

The picture in the middle on the bottom row is my dress so I'm biased for keyhole. When you go for alterations, ask if she can place them on the dress to see how they look. You'll get a better understanding of how it looks before you get it done

Did you try on a keyhole dress at any point? Even if it wasn't "the one"? I loved them but ended up looking absolutely horrible in them- I'm too small for it to work right. Anyway my point being, make sure it's something you like on you, not on a model, before you alter that gorgeous dress!
