Action Stations

rubyjem, on July 13, 2009 at 12:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Can anyone explain to me exactly what these are? I have tried to find out information online but haven't been very successful. Best I can tell is that they are another option to buffets. Also, has anyone used these? We are trying to figure out exactly what type of food service we want at our reception. Thanks!

An action station just means that there is a chef type person at the station preparing the food for your plate. For example we're having buffet stations, and one is a carving station...so a guy is standing there carving as he serves it to people. There are also things like pasta stations and salad stations that have an attendant to prepare it to order. You'll probably pay a bit more for these because they are "manned"!

I love action pasta stations!!!! i wanted to do it for our reception but b/c of location it wasn't practical. THe ones I have been to have a chef, 2-3 kinds of pre cookled pasta ( a noodle like linguine, a tortelleni and maybe a spinach pasta for example) then all diff kinds of veggies (mushrooms, onions, peppers, sun dried tomatoes, garlic etc) and a red sauce white sauce and you pick what you want in your pasta, they throw it in a skillet for a minute or 2 toss it all and throw it on your plate... FUN!

I love action stations and I have worked them many times before ( I am a chef). You will pay more for an action station, it's not a probably it is a definitively. You have to pay for the chef that is there, and it can go up to and extra $100-200 per hour just to have them stand there. In my mind, it is nice, but totally not worth it.

An action station can also be something that requires the guests to act on. Like a Martini mashed potato bar or mac and cheese bar. The potatoes are served in martini glasses and the guests choose the toppings and such to make the martini. Action stations usually require some sort of interaction from the guests with the food options or the chef.

I've never been to a wedding that had an action station, but it sounds like it would be a really great touch! I only wish we had that kind of stuff where I live!
