"Act of God" or "act of government Body"

Olivia, on April 6, 2020 at 9:04 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

My Fiance & I are getting married in Northern California on July 28, 2020. We are very hopeful and remaining positive at this time, but we are also keeping in mind that the worst can happen. Like most wedding contracts state, we have signed our contract that clearly states no act of god or government body can protect us from the cancelation policy.

Has anyone found any COVID government assistance towards this issue?

Thank you,

Olivia

Do not cancel, see if you can "transfer" the wedding date at the same facility being it is a pandemic.

So this is my take on it. The government is not going to force businesses to refund their customers. Even tho it is not your fault you have to cancel you are not guaranteed a refund. My contracts also did not have acts of God clauses it just said with cancellations the deposits are non-refundable. Regardless if its our fault or not its still a cancellation. As PP has said, if you postpone you will lose a lot less money (or wont lose any money at all) than if you cancel, if you cancel you may lose all your deposits.

We are able to keep the venue and reschedule at no cost - I think most places that you contact will say the same. For other vendors that can't hold your new date... that is a different story and I'm more worried to find out that answer

I would talk to your vendors once the date gets closer. As PP said, they will probably let you reschedule without having to lose your deposit.
Also where in Northern CA are you getting married? I’m also getting married in northern CA (Lake Tahoe)

I’m getting married near Lake Tahoe in Kirkwood at a property. My date is July 28 and I’m in between being positive and waiting this out, and taking postponing more seriously. My venues contract has pretty strict policies and so far seem to not be open to postponing or cancellations. In their contract it mentions that any acts of god or government body can’t qualify for postponing/cancellation. I have never felt so helpless.

Ugh that’s crazy I’m sorry! I’m getting married on the west shore of tahoe by Homewood ski resort. My venue actually decided to completely close until the summer but I see on their social media that they did let people postpone. Hopefully by July things will be better or if they don’t your venue will be more helpful. I’m so sorry

Yeah it’s been super tough. I have no idea what to expect and can’t make any moves right now. I almost chose your venue, it’s so beautiful! When is your date? Do you think about postponing?

We fell in love with the venue when we toured it.
Mine is Dec 6th so still a long way to go so I’m hopeful. Still hard not to think about having a second wave there. Especially because everyone but my parents are out of town and have to fly.
