Acrylic Nails & Summer Heat

Mikiko, on April 5, 2019 at 4:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Does anyone have a problem with acrylic nails in the summertime? I had full sets continuiously for most of the winter. Summer comes and the last set I had was a real nightmare. They broke, they lifted. A week ago, I couldn't stand it any more and had them taken off.

Now I'm even more unhappy. My own nails are short. I went with a light polish and bought the nail strengthener which I've applied daily. Not only are my nails breaking but the polish just isn't holding up. It's peeling off and my nails look terrible. :confused3

I've grown to love the look of nice polished nails. It's a nice treat for me. I'm thinking about getting another set but I don't want to end up with a nail infection if they are not holding up the way they had been.

I'm wondering if part of my problem came in with pool water and/or sunscreen. I do a lot of sunscreen most every day (8 daycare kids plus myself to cover). If that's the problem, I'm thinking maybe I should invest in the spray sunscreen and maybe save my nails. If it's the pool water, there isn't much I can do about that. Also, does anyone know if salt water would be terrible on acrylic nails? We're off to the beach in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Take a couple months off to give your nails a break, put absolutely nothing on them. Start taking Biotin and Calcium vitamins I would also purchase a good hand lotion like Kiehl's Ultimate strength hand salve and when you apply pay extra attention to your nail beds and cuticles.

Pool water can be very destructive to your nails and I would definitely invest in the spray sunscreen.

I only get my nails done a few times in the summer. I've never has a problem you should be fine but in the mean time I'd let them heal

I wore acrylics for YEARS but haven't put them on in about 2 - I don't recall ever having an issue with humidity. I live in the Midwest and am quite literally located in a valley, the humidity here is insane! It took me about a year to fully heal my nails after acrylics. My recommendation is to keep them super short, because they will be thin and tear. Don't put any gel or polishes on them. Buy a good nail stregthener (I used Nailtiques) and follow the instructions religiously. It will help!

That's so weird! I've never had an issue with my fake nails. I'm in Colorado so winter is pretty cold & summer can get up to around 90-100. I have fake tips, with the powder gel (not sure exactly what its called) and I do an ombre pink/white. I've had them for over 10 years. I always request them thicker & shorter, and try not to go too long without a fill.

That is not the problem. Did you use a different tech then normal? It sounds like they didnt file all the acrylic off ypur cuticle which causing lifting.

I've been getting acrylics for years, and never had any issue with heat/humidity. It sounds like a bad installation. The only time I ever have an issue with lifting is when the tech doesn't keep them off my cuticle. Or if they don't prep your natural nail good enough first, they can lift.

But since you took them off, I would give your nails a couple of weeks to heal and strengthen, at least.

I’m sorry love but ur problem is not the nails or the acrylic the problem is your nail tech she’s not doing your nails correctly I get my nails done every three weeks and I’ve been doing them for years and never had a problem in the winter time or summertime change nail techs .
