Acceptable Distance From Ceremony to Reception

Bride2Be, on January 29, 2018 at 11:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
It's important to my fiance that we have a church ceremony, which is what I'd prefer too, but I'm wondering how far is it acceptable to ask guests to travel between the church and reception venue?

I think about 1/2 an hour is acceptable.

Our ceremony venue and reception venue are about 25 minutes away.

I think 30 minutes max. We are getting married in a church that is not our parish, due to travel distances. Our priest is coming up to marry us in that church though!

Anything more than 30 minutes and I'd probably be driving home instead of the reception venue.

I think keeping it under 30 minutes is reasonable.

I agree that 30 minutes is a good rule. When my FH s brother got married their reception was almost an hour away but they provided transportation to and from and champagne on the buses so no one minded much.

Agree with PPs- half hour, max. Any further than that and you might have people skipping the ceremony simply due to inconvenience.

Definitely 30 minutes max. I went to a wedding that had a 2 hour gap and a 50 minute drive in between locations. Some guests and the wedding party were late, they were late to start the reception because of it. We're also having a church wedding but we got lucky and out reception venue is about 10 minutes max from the church.

Agree with 30 minutes. I was in a wedding that the reception was 45 minutes from the ceremony. We went and took pictures close to the ceremony location. Once the photographer was done with the wedding party we went back to the limo and drank while she took the couple's pictures. By the time we finally got to the reception we were all making a bee line for the bathroom because we all had to pee so bad. Obviously it won't be as bad for just the guests but it was horrible when we were 15 minutes away and realized we didn't have a bathroom in sight.

Definitely 30 minutes max. Otherwise people may skip out on the ceremony or reception.
