Abstaining from sex pre-wedding

Anonymous, on June 19, 2024 at 12:35 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 1
Hi all. I started working on a premarital counseling forum for the Christian nondenominational church that I attend. My fiancé and I have been dating for five years and have been sexually active since early on, which is why I am seeking outside perspectives regarding this survey. I was surprised to see this statement as well as explicit questions regarding sexual boundaries and history. See below:

Is this normal conversation to have within a church setting? Is this statement regarding premarital abstinence one that is the norm? Personally this statement and line of discussion makes me uncomfortable.

    That is one of the issues that church groups are broadly concerned about concerning their culture and the broader world. So their interest is in preserving some concepts of biblical law. It's one the ways they can present some level of resistance to the ways of the world. Should it be embarrassing to share that you are involved in the premarital activity? -- even if you keep it vague and say, for example, that the boundaries are just about keeping behavior natural? (If anything more explicit were to be asked, that would probably be improper during counseling.)

    Can you work with the church's objective and seek to understand it and follow it now? or do you try to seek a different path that lets you do something just because you don't want to change -- perhaps so you can just do what you like?

    Maybe talk it over with some people you trust. If needed make some better friends in that church where you maybe can discuss this issue. And, if needed, delay doing that request for pre-marital counseling. {edited due to confusing wording}
